Best Jim Edmonds impression: Steven Souza’s diving catch to secure Jordan Zimmermann’s no-hitter
Under normal circumstances, Steven Souza’s diving catch to rob Miami Marlins outfielder Christian Yelich of extra bases would’ve been incredible. But his catch didn’t come under ordinary circumstances, it was the final out of the final game of the regular season in which Washington National starting pitcher Jordan Zimmerman had gone 8.2 innings without allowing a hit.
Yelich appeared to have ended Zimmerman’s no-hit bid when he turned on a Zimmermann fastball and lined one into left. But Souza, who came into the game in the ninth inning as a defensive replacement, somehow found a way to track down the ball just short of the warning track with a diving grab, securing the first no-hitter in Nationals history.
