Nebraska at Wisconsin
It took several pages to get here, but here it is, what is (barring a superhuman performance by Minnesota) your Big Ten West championship game. And what a game it’s going to be. I’m not even being sarcastic.
It will be cold in Madison on Saturday and for the foreseeable future. That won’t have too great an effect on this game since both teams make a show of toughness and make their livings running the ball. Ameer Abdullah’s status is up in the air at the moment. He has been practicing but there’s no final word on how available he’ll be.
Nebraska had better hope he’s close to 100 percent. Wisconsin’s defense is more than capable of controlling this game if Abdullah doesn’t play, and the Badgers bring plenty of ground-based heat. No game is ever won or lost by one player, though.
I’m guessing Abdullah will be healthy enough to play and be effective but Nebraska’s in for a fight. The Badgers have not been kind to their opponents since the disaster in Evanston six weeks ago. Of course, those opponents weren’t anywhere close to as talented as Nebraska.
Look, if you’re only going to watch one Big Ten game this weekend, this should be it. Not only is it likely for the West crown (again, unless Minnesota has something to say about it), but it’s going to be entertaining. And who wins?
And also Wisconsin.
The pick: Wisconsin 26, Nebraska 20
