California 60, Washington State 59
The matchup between the Golden Bears and the Cougars was expected to be a complete shootout through the air, and it didn’t disappoint.
Washington State’s Connor Halliday and Cal’s Jared Goff combined to throw for 11 touchdowns, the two teams put up just over 1,400 yards of offense and Halliday set a new FBS passing record with 734 yards in a thriller in Pullman. Obviously, defense wasn’t exactly a big factor, with neither team turning the ball over as they moved the up and down the field with ease. The shootout finally came to an end when Washington State kicker Quentin Breshears missed a 19-yard field goal attempt wide right right 19 seconds left.
It was a shocking conclusion and very fitting ending to one of the most unpredictable weekends of college football in recent memory.
