Wisconsin at Northwestern
“The Badgers are typically snakebit at Ryan Field.” That’s the conventional wisdom, and it’s not necessarily wrong considering the Badgers haven’t won in Evanston since 1999. Still, let’s not overstate things. Wisconsin played in Evanston once under Bret Bielema, losing by two points to a Wildcat team that wound up in the Outback Bowl.
Mind you, Northwestern’s performance against Penn State last weekend was nothing short of dominating and means the Cats do have to be taken seriously no matter how wretched they looked in the season’s first three games. Still, I can think of several differences between Penn State and Wisconsin, and I bet you can too. Did you think of “depth?” You should have, because it will make the difference in this game. I don’t care how fast Northwestern might be, unless it’s up four scores at halftime, the Badgers will wear Northwestern down in a way Penn State couldn’t. You can size-12 your way to dominating an opponent whose next man in isn’t any better than yours. Good luck motivating your way to superior depth against an opponent with twice the depth you have.
