Pickin’ On the Big Ten, Week 3: All Thy Sins Laid Bare

West Virginia at Maryland

Randy Edsall

How are the Terps doing so far?

Hip though it may be to hate on Randy Edsall, the Terps have gotten it done so far this season. They destroyed James Madison, then went to South Florida and won. But there have been far too many turnovers on the way and the passing game, which was supposed to be Maryland’s forte this season, hasn’t quite come together yet.

These two schools hate each other, of course, but that isn’t the only reason why this is a game to keep your eye on. Our perception of Dana Holgorsen has gone from “eccentric guru” to “Red Bull-swilling weirdo” but it may be time to shift the pendulum back a little bit. Not many teams can score 23 points on Alabama, let alone hold the Tide to just 33. It’s the latter number that surprises me more than the former, since Holgorsen’s WVU defenses have been of the “just let them score so we can get the offense back on the field” variety. This will be the biggest test the Terps have faced this season but that won’t be true for the Mountaineers. Maryland, but only by a hair.

Pick: Maryland 34, West Virginia 33
