Penn State at Rutgers
How are the Nittany Lions and Scarlet Knights doing so far?
Hey, they’re both 2-0, and that’s not nothing. Rutgers proved it hasn’t fully made the transition to Big Ten culture yet since it went to the West Coast and won a game. Its win over Washington State is easily the Big Ten’s best out-of-conference win this season, which is good, since last week’s edging of Howard was unimpressive. (Howard got shut out by Akron, 41-0.) Penn State’s out-of-conference, out-of-country win over Central Florida may wind up being impressive at the end of the season but I’ll withhold judgement for now. Getting the postseason ban lifted immediately is a great thing for the Nits, but there are still 10 games between now and the postseason.
This is the first of those games. Rutgers is hyping this matchup with an almost insane ferocity, trying to get a rivalry going with its neighbor to the west. I’m not sure the Scarlet Knights are actually any good. I can say the same about Penn State. I feel confident that the Nits are the better team, though.
