With both the Red Sox and Yankees having off years, the American League East should be there for the taking. And indeed the Blue Jays set the pace for much of the first half of 2014, but a July slump has left Toronto just above the .500 mark.

Patience is starting to wear thin for a franchise that has not seen the postseason since 1993. Gibbons had one previous stint in Toronto from 2004-08, if the Jays fall short again the Montana native could get a pink slip for a second time.
