There are plenty of worthy nominees for this award, including guys like Drew Doughty, Zdeno Chara, Shea Weber and Ryan Suter. However, Chicago’s Duncan Keith is the favorite for the Norris Trophy, and with good reason. He led all blueliners with 55 assists and was second among defenseman with a total of 61 points. Keith has also been a workhorse for the defending champion Blackhawks, logging a team-high 24:39 of ice time per game.
There is some truth to the criticism that his offensive numbers are inflated because he gets to dish the puck to teammates like Patrick Kane, Patrick Sharp, Jonathan Toews and Marian Hossa. But you’d still be hard-pressed to final a better all-around defenseman in hockey. While Weber should be garnering more consideration than he has been, Keith still has done enough this season to win his second Norris Trophy in five years.
