[tps_header]Worst Coach: John Tortorella, Vancouver Canucks[/tps_header]
After back-to-back embarrassing first round playoff exits, the Vancouver Canucks decided to bring in former New York Rangers coach John Tortorella to try and light a fire under the belly of the team’s players. Unfortunately, the season turned into nothing more than a dismal train wreck and circus, with the Canucks missing out on the playoffs entirely.
While the front office should be held accountable for not putting together a team that would fit Tortorella’s style of coaching, he still is very much to blame for the team’s underachieving.
In less than a year, Tortorella has managed to alienate players and fans with his childish antics, and his 15-day suspension for trying to storm the Calgary locker room was an embarrassment to Vancouver and hockey in general. Tough coaches can absolutely be successful in the NHL (examples: Ken Hitchcock, Mike Babcock), but Tortorella comes off more as a hothead with a Napoleon complex than he does a coach trying to be tough on his players.
