[tps_header]1. Jimmy Garoppolo, QB, Eastern Illinois[/tps_header]
Garoppolo is drawing raves from many scouts and NFL executives and if someone falls in love with him enough, he could sneak into the late first, or early second round of this year’s draft. At 6-2 and 226 pounds he has a nice blend of size and adequate speed for the position. He has proven his durability, as he took over the starting job as a freshman and went on to start 45 consecutive games in his four years. He also has off-the-charts intangibles and is outstanding at reading defenses and diagnosing plays.
Garoppolo’s arm strength and accuracy both rate as very good. He can make all the throws, and also is great at anticipating coverages and where his receivers will be. The 22-year-old is excellent at manipulating coverage with his eyes, then finding gaps. He’s mobile, has a great release and, other than Teddy Bridgewater, is the most mentally-prepared quarterback in this draft.
If Garoppolo was a major-college guy he would have been a name casual fans knew well by now.
