MNF: San Francisco 49ers at Arizona Cardinals Preview, Point Spread, and Prediction

The top two teams in the NFC West meet up tonight to determine first place in the division.

A win for San Francisco would give them a two-game lead in the division, while a win for Arizona would tie the Cardinals for first place.

The teams split the season series last year, even with the success of the 49ers.

San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco is having another spectacular season. After a 26-3 blowout loss against the Giants two weeks ago, they were able to bounce back with a tough 13-6 win over Seattle last week. It got them to 5-2 and to first place in the revived NFC West.

The defense of the 49ers has once again been what separates them from the rest of the competition. They have the best overall defense in terms of yards allowed per game, and they have the top-ranked pass defense in the league. In their last three wins, the defense has allowed a total of nine points, which includes a shutout against the Jets.

The offense has scored a combined 92 points in these games, and the run game has been, at times, equally as dominant as the defense. They have the top-ranked rush offense in the league, along with the ninth overall offense in terms of yards per game. This has been due to the success of both Frank Gore and Kendall Hunter, as they have combined for 859 rushing yards and five touchdowns.

Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals have lost three straight games after their 4-0 start. The last two losses have been by seven and three points respectively, but the margin does not truly matter.

Arizona was having success with Kevin Kolb as the starter, which is a role he should have had since the first minute of the first game. He replaced John Skelton after he got injured in Week 1, and Kolb was the starter until he himself was injured two weeks ago against Buffalo. Skelton in now the starter, which makes the Cardinals far more average than they were with Kolb as the starter.

The offense has visibly struggled over the past three weeks, and it is evident when looking at the league statistics. Arizona has the 31st overall offense in terms of yards per game, and that does not look like it will change anytime soon. They only have three rushing touchdowns on the season, and must focus on the ground game against San Francisco, as the 49ers pass defense is the best in the league.

49ers-Cardinals Prediction

The Cardinals are in free fall, while the 49ers are continuing to be a top team in the league.

Arizona will not have great success with John Skelton as their quarterback, and will drop their fourth in a row tonight against the 49ers.
