The Vikings do not need Bill Parcells. They shouldn’t even want him.
Simple as that.
Bill Parcells to the Vikings would make no sense
In case you haven’t heard. According to the New York Post, the Vikings and owner Zygi Wilf are “putting the hard sell on the former Giants and Jets coach to head to Minnesota and ‘run the show.'”
This doesn’t make any sense.
Bill Parcells is 71 years old. It is three weeks before an NFL Draft that is extremely important to the rebuilding of the Vikings franchise. They purposefully stayed away from the big names in free agency so they could focus on getting younger and building from within the organization.
A 71 year old head coach/GM/everything man is just flat out not a good idea at this point, no matter what his name is.
Bringing in Bill Parcells doesn’t fit into that plan. Not right now. Maybe it would have fit into that plan back in December, but even then, probably not.
Parcells didn’t exactly leave the Miami Dolphins, the last team to put him in charge of organizational moves, in better condition that he got them.
If Parcells was to coach the Vikings as well, it is likely he would try to convert them to a 3-4 defense, something he did in his last coaching gig at Dallas. That move actually worked out pretty well. Ask Cowboys fans if they like DeMarcus Ware.
But none of that matters.
What matters is that the Vikings are not going to replace their head coach and newly appointed GM three weeks before the draft. Especially not with a guy who is 71 years old. There is no sane logic that would prove it would be a good move.
Sure the Vikings are trying to build a new stadium and keep the team in Minnesota forever, but will Bill Parcells really do that? And if Owner Zigi Wilf has the pockets to tell Parcells to name his price, maybe he should keep that money and put it towards the stadium.
I know you want to win Zigi, and trust me, so do the rest of us fans, but Bill Parcells is not the answer.
