Mike Brown hired as Los Angeles Lakers head coach

According to numerous sources (and updating this report just recently posted by Jerod), the Lakers have been in serious conversations with ex-Cavs head coach Mike Brown. But this morning I’m getting word that the Lakers now plan to hire Brown as their new head coach.

Brown is expected to sign his contract later Wednesday or Thursday. The deal is worth between $4 million and $4.5 million per season, according to NBA officials. Brown’s contract is thought to be for three years, with a team option on the fourth season that would give him partial pay if he is not retained.

While Kobe Bryant has been quoted stating he has ‘great respect’ for Brown, he had no comment Tuesday afternoon when asked of his opinion.

Mike Brown won the 2008-09 Coach of the Year Award, and coached the Cavs to two consecutive NBA best-records.
