Update: Raiders veteran running back Michael Bennett; formerly of the Vikings, Chiefs, Buccaneers, and Chargers; showed the burst and explosiveness of a rookie in spite of his age (turned 32 Friday), in Thursday's preseason opener against the Cowboys, logging 68 yards on 12 carries. Bennett's longest carry, which went for 18 yards, was the longest by either team on the night and Bennett also was on the business end of the Raiders longest passing play, netting a 33-yard reception.
Fantasy Impact: Bennett made the best case he could have possibly made Thursday night, not only for a roster spot, but also quite possibly for being a no.2 back. The absence of Darren McFadden made it possible for Bennett to show how much gas he had in the tank and he took full advantage. McFadden has been widely lauded for having a good offseason, but if his history of injuries and fumbling woes continues to be a problem, he won't make much of a consistent impact. Monitor the progression of Bennett and McFadden through the rest of training camp and preseason, because one of them will turn out to be worthy of no.2 RB status in fantasy, where as the other will most likely not even be worth a waiver-wire pickup.
