The Hawks will start an important eight-game road trip this weekend, first kicking it off in Columbus, were they will play the Blue Jackets right after they shut them out 3-0 Thursday.
It’s the longest road trip for the Hawks this season, and it comes in a crucial part of the season. The Hawks looked good as ever Thursday as Brian Campbell scored just 61 seconds into the game last Thursday. Huet, who struggled against Minnesota last Saturday, was sharp, stopping all 24 shots that came his way.
The Hawks are looking to retain their spot as the top team in the Western Conference, and a road trip like this will surely test the Hawks’ ability to win crucial, mid-season games because it’s not an easy road trip.
The Hawks start off in Columbus then head to Detroit to play the rival Red Wings. The it’s off to Ottawa on Tuesday followed by Calgary on Thursday. The Hawks end the week in Vancouver on Saturday, and don’t play until Tuesday against Edmonton. During the final stretch the Hawks play the Sharks on Thursday, and finally finish the road trip off in North Carolina against the Hurricanes.
Regarding Columbus today the Hawks have won both meetings against them, and are looking for a strong showing so they can build some confidence heading into Detroit.
As for injuries it doesn’t look like defenseman, Cam Barker, will play today for the Hawks. He is currently on the injury report with a upper-body injury, and is listed as day-to-day. He did skate Thursday, but has missed the past five games.
Puck drop is 1pm cst Saturday, and its a big game for the Blue Jackets as their hopes of being in the playoff race are dwindling.
*UPDATE: Cam Barker is back in the lineup and will be playing today.
*Huet will be in the net for the Hawks.
