This world is littered with comedy that was underappreciated during its time. Movies, TV shows, stand-up…each genre has its cult legends that a certain segment of the population swear by, but that never caught on in the mainstream.
The reason for that, of course, is that mainstream humor, as a general rule, sucks donkey balls.
Least common denominator humor (think Jay Leno) is rarely funny. Oh, I know, somewhere someone is laughing at Jay Leno and his news clippings and street idiots and sycophantic interviewing, but these probably are not the people you’d find me having a whole hell of a lot in common with.
And that brings me to the subject of today’s post, which is a TV show that has been off the air for a long while now, but that I still find myself quoting on at least a weekly basis (depending on how often KVB and I speak by phone). That TV show is The Critic, and it is – unquestionably, unequivocally, and hands down – one of the most underappreciated and underrated TV comedies ever.
Don’t argue with me. Or I’ll glue you to the ceiling. With the dog.

larship offers. The writers on the show gave Smash the same fate, but they made Smash far more likeable and resilient. Unlike the real-life Miles, the fictional Williams recovered from his knee injury and eventually went on to play college football.
