With Jack Skille traded to the Florida Panthers, the Chicago Blackhawks made a statement saying they are in the business of negotiating.

Something needs to happen, and that’s becoming more and more apparent as the weeks go by. Inconsistency has plagued this team, and it could cost them a playoff spot.

The Blackhawks currently sit at the 11th spot in the Western Conference, three points behind the eighth seed. Making a trade, maybe even dealing a top player, might be sensible. It could be the one way shake things up and get some consistency into the team.

Here we will look at five possible players that could be dealt before the deadline.

*Note* that these are in no particular order.

5. Jassen Cullimore

Trading Cullimore would be a move that would most likely be just to remove dead weight and add some money back to the cap room. Cullimore is an example of one of those duds that the Blackhawks brought in to fill some empty spaces. Once they realized he wasn’t cutting it, they had him placed on the in-actives.

In a different setting Cullimore could be a 3rd or more likely 4th line defender for a team. He’d also be a cheap get, as in not having to give up a lot for him. His $223,000 salary is affordable to every team.

Sure, the ‘Hawks wouldn’t get anything spectacular from this trade, but it’s more tuned to the process of getting rid of dead weight.

4. Tomas Kopecky

<img style="margin: 5px;" src="http://cdn.bleacherreport.net/images_root/slides/photos/000/721/671/108292528_display_image.jpg?1297661341" alt="DETROIT, MI - JANUARY 22: Tomas Kopecky #82 of the Chicago Black Hawks skates in a game against the Detroit Red Wings on January 22, 2011 at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan.

Kopecky is having his breakout season when you talk about points, but what he’s really doing is becoming more like dead weight. He’s getting paid $1.2 million, and due to lack of depth is mostly playing on the first line, where he clearly doesn’t belong.

He isn’t getting it done in the face-offs either. His 35% winning percent isn’t turning any heads or helping out the team in any way. In fact, it’s probably hurting the team more.

But his recent offensive production makes his trade value a little higher, and a team could want to add him as an all-around and utility player.

3. Dave Bolland

A $3.75 million contract might scare some teams away, but others might be enticed with this emerging forward.

Bolland was expected to have a bigger season than he is right now. A 19-goal season in his rookie year seemed to pave the way for a bright future, but he was been injury plagued in his second season, playing only 39 games.

This season he’s off to a slower start than expected, but he has 12 goals in 42 games as well as a +6 in the plus/minus ratting.

Maybe a change of scenery could help Bolland out?

2. Byran Bickell

Bickell has been impressive in his first full season, accumulating 23 points(13G,16A). He’s only 24 years old, giving him a couple of years to keep building up his talent.

With a contract a little over $500,000, it wouldn’t be too hard to find a team who wants Bickell, and I suspect they could get some prospects for him, as well as a draft pick.

The Blackhawks could also see him as a future player, but my guess because of the state of the team, if a good deal came along, the organization would snatch it.

1.Brent Seabrook<img class="alignright" style="margin: 5px;" src="http://cdn.bleacherreport.net/images_root/slides/photos/000/721/646/108292527_display_image.jpg?1297660765" alt="DETROIT, MI - JANUARY 22: Brent Seabrook #7 of the Chicago Black Hawks waits for a faceoff in a game against the Detroit Red Wings on January 22, 2011 at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan.
Seabrook has been been on the trade rumor block for some time now, and while at first it seemed crazy to think about it, the more you do the more it starts making sense.

Seabrook’s contract ends at the end of the season, and he’s currently being paid $3.5 million. That could easily go up to the $5 million, even more.

Seabrook has been less than stellar this season, but he is beginning to pick up his play. With is trade value at its peak, the Blackhawks could get a great addition to the team for him, as well as making cap space.

Published reports indicate that the St. Louis Cardinals and San Diego Padres have agreed on a trade bringing Khalil Greene to St. Louis for two relievers. The names of the relievers have not been published.

Published reports indicate that the St. Louis Cardinals and San Diego Padres have agreed on a trade bringing Khalil Greene to St. Louis for two relievers. The names of the relievers have not been published and I, as well as many other Redbird fans, are very curious to find out who the relievers are.

Khalil Greene is apparently owed 6.5 million in 2009 and will be a free agent at the end of the season. Again, the full details of this trade have not been released yet so we are unsure if the Cards are on the hook for the full $6.5 million or if the Padres have agreed to eat some of this money.

Greene had a breakout year in 2007, cranking 27 HR’s and driving in 97 RBI’s, while playing a very smooth shortstop. Greene struggled at the plate in 2008, though, as experts feel he was consumed with trying to hit the long ball. Khalil only hit .213 in 2008 with 10 HR’s and 35 RBI’s through 105 games. His season was cut short July 31st as he broke his hand after apparently punching a storage unit.

Reports show that Khalil Greene had a falling out with the Padres front office and it has been rumored for a while now that they were wanting to move him, whether just to get rid of his salary or turn the page with someone else.

I am sure the Cardinals are hoping that a change of scenery will help Greene return to his ’07 form. Khalil Greene has performed better away from pitcher-friendly Petco park over his years there, to the tune of a .270 BA and 50 HR’s versus .255 and 30 HR’s at Petco.

When the details of this deal are finally released we will be able to truly decide if the Cards have made a smart move here. Hopefully they have’nt given up some top name prospects and likewise, hopefully Greene can return to being the electric, smooth, power hitting shortstop that helped him make a name for himself.

I will say it’s nice to actually see the Cards doing something. They have made some moves over the past couple of years but not necessarily what a lot of fans were hoping for. Again, that’s why we’re fans and not management. The Cards continue to compete and hopefully with a few more strong moves this off season the Cards can climb back to the top of the Central.
