Ndamukong Suh: Suspension Likely For The NFL’s Official Turkey of Thanksgiving 2011

suh

The Detroit Lions are officially a feel-good story no more.

And it’s safe to say that Ndamukong Suh has run out of chances with commissioner Roger Goodell in the aftermath of being given the equivalent of a red card for acting like a crazed Black Friday shopper on Packers lineman Evan Detrich-Smith yesterday.

This is how Nickelback in Detroit should have gone…

motown-nickelback

As you surely know, Nickelback played the halftime show of yesterday’s highly anticipated Lions-Packers Thanksgiving Day game, much to the chagrin of some 55,000 people who signed a petition to have a band that doesn’t suck entertain us during the day’s first football intermission.

Heck, Ndamukong Suh was so upset at Nickelback’s performance that he kicked a guy!

And the sad thing is that all of this – including the terrible, barely-possible-to-listen-to performance by Nickelback – could have been avoided with a simple compromise.

It has a whirlwind few days here at MSF in terms of football content. That’s how it goes around Thanksgiving when football is trumped only by food and family, and typically enjoyed altogether all weekend long.

(And just in case you were wondering how America came to this annual tradition of football on Turkey Day, Josh Tinley breaks it all down right here.)

Use this guide as a preview for your day of football viewing and to all of our Thanksgiving Day football content here at MSF.

Miami Dolphins at Dallas Cowboys: Preview and Prediction for the ‘Leon Lett Game’ Thanksgiving Rematch

thumb

On Thursday the National Football League presents perhaps it’s best Thanksgiving package ever.

The first portion begins with the 10-0 Green Bay Packers against the Detroit Lions (AMANDA’S PREVIEW). Dessert is the 9-1 San Francisco 49ers visiting the Baltimore Ravens. (Throw in a certain Indiana Hoosiers hoops coach and the Harbaugh clan is fast becoming the most annoying coaching dynasty in the history of Western Civilization.)

Just don’t forget the main course in the middle; because as any true elitist knows, it is just not quite Thanksgiving without the Dallas Cowboys.

Cowboys-Dolphins Thanksgiving Day Preview and Prediction

Thanksgiving Day is a day reserved for two things: food and football.

The games have not exactly been the most entertaining affairs the last few years, but this year is completely different and the matchup between the Miami Dolphins and the Dallas Cowboys is no exception.

The first of the three Thanksgiving Day games features the undefeated Green Bay Packers as they travel to Detriot to take on the Lions. This will be one of the biggest games of the season for both of these teams.

Football fans are in for a treat this Thanksgiving, as this year’s Thanksgiving Day NFL games actually feature legitimate matchups.

Fans will be treated to a great game featuring the Packers and Lions in the afternoon, followed by the Cowboys and Dolphins, which could turn out to be a decent game, and then the best game of the day will be at night when the 49ers head into Baltimore with many storylines in tow.

When it comes to Thanksgiving, I don’t think the sheer awesomeness of the day can be overstated.

No day with a possible routine like this could be: Wake up, football, eat, football, beer, football, eat, beer, beer, football, beer, unconsciousness, beer, football, eat, beer.

That could be the whole day and no one can shoot you disapproving looks about it.

There are no silly annoyances like showers or nice clothes or healthy, portion-controlled dieting. Just gorging on food and beer until one literally cannot move, followed by the catching of one’s breath, and by that time it’s only around 6 o’clock, meaning the whole night is still on the horizon, provided you can be anything but horizontal.

What a great day to remember that life can be very, very awesome.

This Thanksgiving, we actually have some pretty decent football games to watch between naps. Let’s have a look at them.

One of the greatest days of every year is Thanksgiving. I could write thousands upon thousands of words explaining why Thanksgiving is such a special day, and you’d nod in agreement at all of them.

There aren’t many things that all Americans agree on, but Thanksgiving is one of them.

Somewhere among those thousands upon thousands of words about Thanksgiving would be at least a few paragraphs about football, because after turkey, stuffing, and pumpkin pie, there aren’t many traditions more sacred that Thanksgiving Day football.

So even thought we’re a couple of weeks away, I figured I’d whet your appetite with the NFL’s Thanksgiving Day football schedule for 2010.

Thanksgiving Night Football Preview

New York Giants (6-4) at Denver Broncos (6-4)

New York Giants at Denver Broncos

  • Giants-Broncos Date: Thanksgiving Night, Thursday, November 26th
  • Giants-Broncos Kickoff Time: 8:20
  • Giants-Broncos TV Network: NFLN
  • Giants-Broncos Announcers: Bob Papa and Matt Millen
  • Giants-Broncos Point Spread: Giants -6.5
  • Giants-Broncos Over-Under: 42
  • Giants-Broncos Spread Pick by Jerod: Denver is really playing poorly right now. The Giants haven’t been all that great themselves, but they are scoring points. I don’t think Denver will be able to contain Eli Manning and the Giants, and I don’t think the Broncos have any kind of rhythm on offense right now. Even though this game is at home for Denver, I think their precipitous slide continues. Giants-Broncos free pick: Giants -6.5

Giants-Broncos Analysis

I was in Denver to watch the debacle against a suddenly-cocky San Diego team, and Bronco fans are incensed; the team is simply desperate, having lost four consecutive after opening the campaign with a startling six triumphs in a row. Mix in any other clichés, but one wonders, historically, do desperate teams usually prevail or continue their free-falls?

New York needs wins, but their victory over Atlanta — which broke their own four game slide — helped make Thursday night slightly less urgent for the Giants.

Today is the third Thursday in November, which means one thing and one thing only to me and many of you reading this: we are now officially one week away from the greatest meal of the year.

We are also one week away from a day when it is generally accepted in most households that the TV will be tuned to football all day long.

And, of course, we’re one week away from being able to share a wonderful day with friends and family and let them know that we are thankful for their presence in our lives.

But you don’t need our help with that. You’re here for one thing and one thing only: the Thanksgiving Day TV schedule for the NFL and college football games that will accompany our turkey, stuffing, pumpkin pie, and eventual food coma.

Let’s get right to it.
