Carolina Panthers ‘Ultimate Franchise Player’ Selection

inside-mills

This is the fifth post in Kurt’s continuing series to identify the NFL’s Ultimate Franchise Player of All-Time. For an explanation of his methodology for choosing each franchise’s ultimate franchise player, and then how you and he will choose the NFL’s Ultimate Franchise Player from that list, click here.

Previous selections: ARI | ATL | BAL | BUF

Larry Fitzgerald, Deion Sanders, Ray Lewis, and Bruce Smith.

And that’s just the First Four; a diverse mix of a wide receiver, a cornerback, a linebacker, and a defensive end. Two players still active, two already enshrined in Canton.

There are still 28 automatic bids to be awarded for MSF’s Ultimate Franchise Player tourney, which will precede our own Selection Sunday, where the 32 at-large bids are awarded and we learn the seeds of 64 of the best pro football players ever out of the tens of thousands who have played the game over the past 90+ seasons.

Carolina Panthers History and Honorable Mention

Today we turn our attention to the Carolina Panthers, who have not necessarily had a bad record during the franchise’s 17 years of existence.

Fantasy Football Week 14 Start em, Sit em Advice, Projections, and Lineup Q&A

matthew-stafford-detroit-lions-new-orleans-saints-preview-prediction-point-spread-nfc-playoffs

Week 14 is here.

For some of you, that means you have a team (or hopefully teams) on bye this week. If so, major kudos to you.

For others of you, Week 14 means that it’s the first week of the playoffs. If so, good luck, and hopefully the advice in this post will help you move on.

For others, Week 14 is the last week of your regular season. Maybe you’ve clinched a playoff spot or maybe you’re still scratching and clawing for one. Regardless, hopefully we can do you and your lineup some good with our picks in this week’s start em, sit em.

And for some of you this may be your first week without fantasy football – if your playoffs start this week and you did not make it; but if that’s the case, why would you be reading this?

Alas, if you’re here, you are looking for help in Week 14. And you’re in luck, because that is exactly what you’re about to get.

NFL Midseason Awards

aaron rodgers mustache

The NFL season is half over, and many stories that seemed oh-so important back in August now have little bearing on the season.

We fans fretted and conversed about the lockout and missed training camps, the kickoff rule change, a certain “Dream Team” in Philadelphia, and a #1 overall draft pick who just wasn’t going to cut it as an NFL quarterback; but few predicted the Bengals, Giants and 49ers would lead their divisions at this point.

Injuries!

Andre Johnson is gone.  Ben Roethlisberger is banged up.  Miles Austin is on the mend.  Marques Colston is back, but when will he get on track?

With the bye weeks now here, the time has come when fantasy leagues are truly won and lost.  If you drafted well, and got a little lucky, you should be near the top of the standings.  But nobody can ever completely escape the injury bug.  Managing your lineup properly when byes and injuries attack is what separates the good owners from the great ones.

So let’s look at the Week Five games and decide who to start and who to sit this week.

Fantasy Football Week 4 Start Em, Sit Em Picks, Player Projections, and Lineup Advice

Week Three is over, and you are probably wondering one thing: How is a guy that’s giving such great advice 0-3 in his own fantasy league?

I wish I knew…injuries have just killed me…and I’ve lost each week by an average of 1.2 points. Just heartbreaking.

Some of you are probably in the same boat as me. Even if you aren’t, it’s the time in the fantasy football season when leagues are won and lost. Now is when we have to start making the tough calls.

Fantasy Football Week 3 Start Em, Sit Em Advice, Player Projections, and Lineup Q&A

fantasy-football-week-3-start-em-sit-em-projections-jahvid-best

Week Three is here, and hopefully you aren’t 0-2. Don’t worry, it’s still not panic time…but it very well could be time to shake some things up. As always, let’s recap last week’s predictions before looking ahead.

Because we at MSF try our best to get you our Start Em, Sit Em picks before everyone else, we have to take a few chances. One of the downsides to coming out with these picks on Tuesday is that we won’t know all of the injury updates that come out later in the week. We answer your questions and update our predictions accordingly as more information comes out.

However, a few predictions didn’t pan out this week because of injuries (either during the game, or because guys with nagging injuries didn’t end up suiting up on Sunday)…so out of fairness to me, we are going to throw out Michael Vick, Felix Jones, and Dez Bryant.

So besides those guys who caught the injury bug, I went 29 out of 46 overall…a little under 65%. I improved from week one…and that’s exactly what you should try to do from week to week in fantasy.

Fantasy Football Week 3: Stats That Matter Involving Cam Newton/Steve Smith, Miles Austin/Jason Witten, and Arian Foster/Ben Tate

cam-newton-steve-smith

When I came up with the fantasy team name It’s Not A Rookie, It’s A Cam Newton this year, it was really just a play off of It Not A Cookie, It’s A Fig Newton. I didn’t realize that the Panthers were drafting a new team when they picked Newton, but the kid has been a machine.

He has not played like a rookie at all and has inspired me to look at some stats that matter and may help you make decisions this coming week and throughout the season.

Fantasy Football Week 2 Pairings: Rex Grossman/Santana Moss, Cam Newton/Greg Olsen, and more

rex-grossman-waiver-wire-pickups-advice-week-15

Week 1 had some crazy swings that I don’t believe anyone could have expected.

LeGarrette Blount only given five carries?!

Steve Smith for 178 yards?! Listen, I knew that Arizona was trying to figure out their secondary and was very weak after getting rid of Rodgers-Cromartie, but I never would have recommended you play Cam Newton in his first game as a pro!

I have a friend, to save his identity we will call him Kentoso, who had a great draft and his team blew up this week which was expected, but he blew up in an unexpected spot. He had both Stafford and Calvin Johnson. While I thought both of them would do well, I didn’t think they would do that well together. Stafford is dedicated to getting the ball to his best receiver. Much like Stafford, Kentoso is dedicated to a few things; fantasy football, pairing a strong receiver/ QB together, and drinking until he has no shame.

This week’s predictions will look at QB dedications that they will try to exploit this week or lose trying.

Fantasy Football Stock Report for Week 2: Flacco, Hillis UP; Ryan, Charles DOWN (and many more)

ravens-chargers preview prediction point spread baltimore san diego sunday night football

Trying to forecast the early weeks of the NFL fantasy season is like…trying to pick a piece of hay out of a stack of needles.  There is always going to be a breakout game from an unknown guy and a bad game from someone who is expected to have big games (Big Ben).

If there is one thing to know prior to Week 2 it is that you shouldn’t be excited one way or another about one specific game; but that doesn’t mean rest on your laurels.  Fantasy football owners must be bold and we have some bold stock reports just for you.

Friday Injury Updates: Percy Harvin, Vince Young, Peyton Hillis, and more

You don’t usually expect the bye week to be filled with injury news for a team, but that’s exactly what the Indianapolis Colts have had to deal with this week.

First we got news that Dallas Clark and Joseph Addai would be out indefinitely, and then seemingly out of nowhere we were hit with the news that Austin Collie had surgery on his hand and will miss a few weeks.

At least for Week 7, this news isn’t devastating because you weren’t planning on using these guys anyway. But keep a close eye on them heading into next week. These are the kinds of injuries you’re planning for when you save a top waiver position for late in the season.

Okay, now let’s run down all the fantasy-relevant injuries for Week 7:

Fantasy Football 3-2-1: Analyzing Early Surprises & Disappointments

In this week’s episode of Fantasy Football 3-2-1, I dissect three players who have performed below expectations so far this year who I think will start to rebound soon because of schedule and/or circumstance.

I also discuss two players who have over-performed their preseason valuations, but who I don’t see maintaining their current pace.

And, as always, I offer you one general piece of advice…which just happens to be the same piece of advice I gave you last week. (Yes, it’s that important!)

Week 3 Waiver Wire Steals: Tashard Choice and the Giants WRs

tashard-choice-fantasy-football

Pro Football Insight is back again with our Week 3 waiver wire steals and sleepers.

If you caught last week’s waiver wire steals column, you benefitted from picking up Todd Heap and from a quality performance off the waiver wire in the Atlanta Falcons Defense.

Here is a quick teaser of this week’s predictions, and then a link to this week’s complete set of waiver wire steals.

waiver wire steals - week 3 fantasy football - tashard choice, steve smith giants, mario manningham

I will start by saying that if anyone is calling Steve Smith or Mario Manningham  a sleeper or waiver wire pick up, they are definitely not going out on a limb. These two are no-brainers to get on your roster if available, and are worthy of starts if you do not have a quality #1 receiver.

waiver wire steals - fantasy football week 3 - tashard choice, steve smith giants, mario manninghamI was going to call Manningham a waiver wire steal last week, but as a Wolverines fan, I avoid picking from my heart. With that in mind, I did pick him up for last week in every league I’m…I just did not start him. Enough small talk, onto this week’s injury and/or poor draft pick fillers:

1. Tashard Choice – RB – Dallas Cowboys

If you own Marion Barber and did not draft Felix Jones, Choice will get carries in Barber’s absence. As Jerod updated earlier today here on MSF, reports out of Dallas are saying that Barber will most likely miss Monday’s game against Carolina. You still want to check the injury reports heading into Sunday, but that’s the latest as of right now.

As for Choice, no he will not put up Barber numbers, but he will produce points in a tandem with Felix Jones. Tashard Choice is a solid substitute for Barber and is a solid flex-level play who could produce RB#2-like numbers.

Update: Definitely keep your eye on Marion Barber’s status. The latest update, at least according to ESPN, is that Barber received treatment yesterday and hopes to play Monday night.  Looks like this will be a Sunday morning decision and you’ll just have to base your thoughts on Barber’s status for Monday night — which will obviously influence Choice’s value — on as much info as you have.

There are still four more solid gold Week 3 waiver wire steals awaiting you at ProFootballInsight.net. Follow the link for the rest the Week 3 waiver wire steals.

And, as always, feel free to use the comment section here or at PFI to ask your fantasy football lineup question.
