Shonn Greene and Alex Smith are two of the most prominent and obvious sleeper picks and waiver wire steals for Week 8. Check out who MSF and PFI believe will be the best Week 8 sleepers for your fantasy football lineups.

This post is from 2009!

Head over to MSF Fantasy Sports for the 2010 Fantasy Football Week 8 Sleepers and Waiver Wire Targets

Week 8, as usual, is filled with injuries, six bye weeks, and numerous underachieving players. This is the time of year when uncovering a waiver wire player about to step into more opportunity can be exactly the boon that your team needs.

In New York and San Francisco, two such sleeper players exist: RB Shonn Greene and QB Alex Smith.

We look at these two Week 8 diamonds in the rough, plus link you to PFI for more sleepers and waiver wire steals for Week 8.

[Editor's Note: Jerod's Week 8 start 'em, sit 'em column will be one day late but will be posted tomorrow morning.]

Week 8 Sleeper / Waiver Wire Steal #1: Shonn Greene-RB-Jets

WOW!!! What a coming out party Greene had last week. How are these stats for someone owned in less than 3% of fantasy leagues: 19 carries for 144 yards with 2 TD’s. Amazing.

Even better (except for Leon Washington and his owners, because the now-injured Jet was having a good season of his own), Leon Washington went down with a broken leg. The Jets liked to run before, and Greene busting out will make them like running the ball even more. This guy is a must have!

Week 8 Sleeper / Waiver Wire Steal #2. Alex Smith-QB-49ers

Smith came into last week’s game and looked like a 1st round draft pick for the first time since being drafted in the first round five years ago. Head Coach Mike Singletary named Smith the starter already for the game this week versus the Colts. This will not be an easy game for Smith, but if you are not deep at the QB position, adding Smith will come in handy when the 49ers face easier match ups.

For bye week information and who you should be playing, follow this link for PFI’s start/sit recommendations. And follow this link for another no-name starting QB that may see the field soon and enter the sleeper and waiver wire steal conversation.
