Could Tim Tebow Become The Next Athlete-Turned-Politician?

tim-tebow-politics

He’s got folk hero status across the country.

He’s winning when everybody was betting against him.

He’s won over fans outside of football.

Could Tim Tebow one day win elections like he’s winning football games now? It’s clearly way too soon to predict, before you scoff at the notion of an athlete leveraging success on the field or court to success in politics, remember: there is a precedent, and plenty of it.

No, the title of this post is not hyperbole. And if you don’t believe me now, you most certainly will after watching this.

Shame on protesters, not Pujols, for actions Saturday

albert-pujols-tony-la-russa

Unfortunately, some St. Louis fans could not accept Albert Pujols receiving this much-deserved award, and instead renounced their slugger and skipper.  Nor could “mainstream” news outlets which displayed their intolerance herehere, and here, and will waste more ink in the days to come no doubt.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, about 30 people gathered Saturday outside Busch Stadium to speak against Tony La Russa and Pujols attending the rally in our Nation’s Capital.

John McCain was in attendance (not sure about Palin), and Brady Quinn took the microphone briefly to make a few remarks. Nope, that was just a rumor).

According to Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer, Brady Quinn’s father is a Vietnam Veteran who has long been an admirer of John McCain’s. Brady was able to introduce his father to McCain while attending the event. Browns left tackle Joe Thomas also attended the McCain-Palin rally with Brady Quinn, but did not speak.

Look, it is not my habit of mixing politics and sports here at Midwest Sports Fans, but this story caught my eye for a few reasons. Here are a few of them:
