Ohio State Receives Fair Punishment By NCAA

Jim-Tressel-Terrelle-Pryor

On Tuesday, the NCAA rendered their decision on the Ohio State football program almost a year after their investigation began about the rule violations that had occurred under former head coach Jim Tressel.

The NCAA decided to cite Ohio State “for failure to monitor, preferential treatment and extra benefit violations,” which got them a postseason ban for one year. Not only will they not be allowed to participate in postseason play next season (including Big Ten championship game) but the NCAA also slapped them some additional penalties as well. Ohio State was placed on three years’ probation and a must give up nine scholarships in that amount of time.

People surrounding the Ohio State football program were stunned that they got such a harsh penalty, but with their history of breaking the rules they received the proper punishment. [Read more...]

Fickell Decision to Start Senior Joe Bauserman over Freshman Braxton Miller the Wrong One for Buckeyes

Luke Fickell Ohio State

Ohio State Buckeyes football coach Luke Fickell has named fifth-year senior Joe Bauserman, not freshman dual-threat phenom Braxton Miller, starting quarterback for the season opener against Akron.

While I understand – and will outline – the reasons Fickell has made this decision, I don’t agree with it.

Viewer’s Guide: NFL Week 8 TV Schedule, Announcer Assignments, Matchups, and Teams on Bye

Week 8 is the most truncated NFL schedule of the season as there are six teams on bye this week. However, there is not loss of compelling matchups.

The primetime games are outstanding. Indianapolis hosts Houston on Monday night while the Steelers-Saints game in New Orleans on Halloween night should be not only a compelling game, but also interesting TV because you just know the New Orleans folks will be excited to dress up in crazy outfits.

Other important games include the Vikings-Patriots, Dolphins-Bengals, and Packers-Jets.

Paul Bunyan Trophy

Guess we have finally got Alabama out of the way.

But still don’t hold your breath on #3 Boise St. or #4 TCU crashing the BCS Championship game. There are still too many more electable candidates, so let’s go down the current list, as the Harris interactive poll was unveiled for the first time this week…

Can Terrelle Pryor Be The First Great NFL QB From OSU?

Terrelle-Pryor-Ohio-State

When you tuned into ESPN’s Monday Night Football last night, you probably heard the infamous player inductions.

This is where a player says their name and their college or high school they attended. One of the most often heard schools is “Thee Ohio State University”.

Ohio State has sent 16 first round draft picks to the NFL since 2000. The players that have been sent into the NFL have succeeded in just about every position: A.J Hawk at line backer, Orlando Pace and Nick Mangold at offensive line, Cris Carter at wide receiver, Eddie George, Maurice Clar . . . umm I mean Beanie Wells at running back, and many more.

But quarterback seems to be the one spot that Ohio State has never had a player transfer his skills from collegiate level to the pros.

Can current Ohio State QB Terrelle Pryor finally be that guy?

Wisconsin-Ohio State Preview and Prediction

Pryor In Madison Last Year

Ohio State v Wisconsin has been one of the more exciting Big Ten matchups over the past three decades, with the Bucks holding only a 13-10-1 advantage since 1980.

In fact, there has even been some animosity that has carried over onto the field in the past.

Remember 2003 in Madison, Buckeye LB Robert Reynolds tackling then-Badger QB Jim Sorgi, choking the QB and knocking him out of the game?

Ironically Ohio State choked the game away, giving up a late 80-yard TD pass to Lee Evans, losing 17-10.

At the time, my grandpa claimed the 1993 (14-14 tie) game ended on a blocked field goal by Ohio State because they had 12 players on the field. He was old, so was that, and this is 2009. Let’s move on.
