2011-12 Eastern Conference Preview: ‘The Legends’ – Carmelo Anthony and My Prediction For Eastern Conference Champion

carmelo-anthony-knicks-eastern-conference-prediction

Welcome to Part 3 of my three-part Eastern Conference Preview.

In Part 1, I analyzed the ongoing debate between Rajon Rondo and Derrick Rose – and two different styles of point guard they represent.

In Part 2, I picked apart two myths we are hearing everywhere that are based on flawed logic – namely, that the Indiana Pacers will be good and that old teams will have a harder team with the shortened schedule than other teams.

And now, in Part 3, I will discuss an Eastern Conference superstar who could be poised to make the leap to legend – Carmelo Anthony – and provide my prediction for which team will represent the East in this year’s Finals.

NBA Rumors: Dwight Howard, Chris Paul, the Lakers, and more

dwight-howard-chris-paul-nba-rumors

It’s been a while since I’ve hit the ‘net with an article, but I’m glad to say I’m back for good…

Just as long as there isn’t another lockout anytime soon people.

We can all agree that the NBA lockout was a time of confusion, anger, and uncertainty for the league we all know and love, but thankfully David Stern and Co. have found a way to get this season underway with a 66-game schedule; which is better than nothing, right?

With the season beginning on Christmas Day, there is a short time for training camps, free agency, and for teams to tune up their rosters to their liking; and as always, there are rumors flying around all over the place. I’ve heard some pathetic ones, but I’ve also heard a few legit ones. Care to know what is true and what is not? I’ve got you covered!

Commercial Grade: NBA 2K12 featuring Michael Jordan, Drake and Brian Wilson

brian-wilson-celtics-150x150

NBA 2K has built such a strong following that sports game giant EA Sports hasn’t even bothered to release a pro basketball game since 2009.  When I was a kid, NBA Live distracted me to the point that I basically turned into the South Park kids when they were addicted to World of Warcraft.

Nowadays I play the 2K series for my basketball fix, although without the extreme tenacity that I once devoted to gaming.  Even though the real life NBA is embroiled in a bitter labor dispute, that can’t stop me from enjoying going 80-2 while averaging a triple-double in “My Player” mode.

The main gimmick of this year’s game, in lieu of any relevant basketball happenings in the real world, is the “NBA’s Greatest” mode, where one can play as any of a large group of historical teams and players.  As such, the commercial released a couple weeks ago focuses on the argument of who is the greatest team ever assembled.

An Interesting Hypothetical Proposition for Cavs Fans

lebron-james-cavs

After an awful 2010-2011 season, thanks mostly to LeBron James’ departure, the Cleveland Cavilers were selecting in the lottery this draft instead of the mid- to late-twenties where Cavs fans have become accustomed to picking over the past few seasons.

It is apparent from the lack of talent on the Cavs roster that Cleveland will not have a playoff team anytime in the near future.

New York Knicks are NOT Better with Carmelo (Right Now)

This past Sunday the New York Knicks were swept by the Boston Celtics. New York failed to win its first home playoff game in over a decade, and they could not even provide the fans with a decent game.

What I will focus on with this post is the possibility of a Heat v Knicks matchup in the first round.

Where To ‘Melo? (UPDATED)

The Miami Heat were among this past offseason’s biggest stories. No doubt, no doubt. The teaming of the superstars made waves all over the sporting world and began a new era in the NBA. But at the same time, they aren’t doing anything new. They took the blueprints to success from the Lakers, Celtics, Bulls, and numerous other dynasties.

But along with the Heat’s mega-offseason came another side story. The story of Carmelo Anthony and just where he’d end up.

The attention seems to be mainly focused on the Big Apple. You have Prokhorov fighting to the earth’s ends in order to secure Melo for the future Brooklyn Nets, and then you have Amar’e attempting to recruit Anthony to play alongside him in New York. Heck, I’ve even heard Charlotte and Houston mentioned in this crazy mix. It seems as if we are in the midst of a great game of tug-o-war.

But it is yet to be finalized where the Syracuse alum will end up. Will he land alongside Amar’e, and try and build another mega-team? Or will he take his talents to New Jersey and try to continue Prokhorov’s global agenda? I wish I knew the answer.

The NBA Morning After: Embrace the Heartbreak Edition

The Morning After is a look at the night that was in the NBA along with other NBA-related fodder.

When Amare Stoudemire’s nullified game-winner ripped the net in Madison Square Garden, ending an exhilarating 48 minutes wherein the Knicks for the most part exhibited confident, manic-by-design basketball, there was hardly enough time to process what we’d just seen before we had to acknowledge that yes, the New York Knicks are once again a team worth paying attention to.

And they clearly are, and that is a good thing. When everything is flowing as effortlessly as it was for much of last night, they will push the elite teams in this league. With D’Antoni as coach, they’ve had a system ready and waiting. It wasn’t until this season, and the additions of Stoudemire, Felton and Fields that the blueprint and pieces have been so in-sync, rather than rubbing against one another like sandpaper. So yes, there is finally an upside for the New York Knicks, a reason to get excited, one that isn’t five years down the road. For a rebuilding team, that is arriving.

Last year, on a smaller market scale, the Milwaukee Bucks arrived. We Feared the Deer and watched as John Salmons became the consistent wing scorer they needed. We watched as they pushed forward after the devastating Bogut injury and took an apathetic Atlanta Hawks team to the brink in the playoffs. Safe to say, any expectations of Milwaukee last year were far surpassed, because there probably weren’t any.

The NBA Morning After: Possibilities Actualized Edition

The Morning After is a look at the night that was in the NBA along with other NBA-related fodder.

The Miami Heat. Holy shit. Road game in hostile environment? Yup. Opposing team strong in the front-court and point guard positions, Miami’s two biggest weaknesses? Yup. A focused, unrelenting, fast-paced, ice-cold statement win? Yes, yes, yes and yes.

For the first time this season, the Heat played The Game We Were All Waiting For, when everything looked beautiful and terrifying at the same time. Have we finally seen the Dark Passenger?

The NBA Morning After: Glass Half Empty Edition

The Morning After is a look at the night that was in the NBA along with other NBA-related fodder.

– Things got out of hand rather quickly in Indiana as the Pacers dropped an asteroid on the Raptors, 124-100. There should be a way to work an “extinction of the dinosaurs” comment into every Raptor loss.

– NBA to New Orleans: “All your Hornets are belong to us.”

The NBA Morning After: Thunder Up Edition

The King’s Choice: Analyzing the Chances for Each of LeBron’s Suitors

July 1st is here and, as we all know, LeBron James has decided that he will become a free agent. LeBron now has a difficult decision ahead for him.

Will he stay with his hometown team the Cavs?

Will he go to the bright lights of New York so he can become a global icon and so we can hear Empire State of Mind like a million more times whenever they show a promo of him.

Or will he go Chicago, the team that he might have the best chance of winning a title with?

In this post, I am going to take a look at all the possible teams where King James might end up and assess the possibility of him going to that team.
