I am a big Spiderman fan. He is my second favorite superhero after the incomparable Batman, who I simply find far and away more compelling than any of the other mainstream superheros (which are really the only ones that I know).

And the new storyline for Spiderman looks pretty compelling, and I have high hopes for Andrew Garfield (he of The Social Network fame) taking over Tobey Maguire’s role.

But let’s be honest: what I’m most looking forward to about the new Spiderman flick is Emma Stone. I do very much enjoy her work.

David Stern and Chris Paul in Misery

david-stern-chris-paul

The lengths to which David Stern has gone to keep Chris Paul in New Orleans inspired this David Stern/Chris Paul/Kathy Bates/James Caan mash-up (which I created in lieu of writing my weekly “Things We Learned This Weekend” column).

Watch it now. If there’s any truth to this report, it could be moot by later this week.

The 4 Best Muppet Show Sketches Ever – Plus The Complete Video History Of ‘Muppet Sports’

Muppet Sports

In honor of The Muppets, which opens today and which still has a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, I’ve compiled every “Muppet Sports” sketch (hosted by Louis Kazagger) from The Muppet Show (1976–1981), which is the first show I can recall watching religiously every week.

Movie Review of ’50/50′ Starring Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt

50-50-movie-review

I am no professional movie reviewer, so please allow me to lower your expectations right off the bat. If you want professional reviews of 50/50, the new movie released this weekend starring Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, then go here (Ebert) and here (Leitch).

I’m not sure what either Ebert or Leitch said about 50/50 because I haven’t read their reviews yet, nor any others. I’ve just seen it, last night. And so here’s my review:

Go see this movie.

500 of the Most Entertaining & Memorable Movie Lines Ever

rocky-best-movie-lines-ever

So I was taking a midday Reddit break, as I often do while transitioning from one task to another in an effort to find fun and entertaining content to tweet out, when I came across a video entitled the 100 Greatest Movie Threats of All-Time. This sounds interesting, I thought to myself; and it was, replete with lines like “Sit your five dollar ass down before I make change” (which is somewhat comical now, considering notorious tax-evader Wesley Snipes said it. Big I digress…)

Then in the related videos I saw the 100 Cheesiest Movie Quotes of All-Time and damn near ruptured my stomach laughing. Among the best just in the first few minutes are “I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass…and I’m all out of bubble gum” and “I hate to disappoint you but…rubber lips are immune to your charms”.

Once I’d spent a good 15 minutes (two and a half if anyone from Orangecast asks) enthralled by these movie lines, I realized I needed to do something productive with my entertaining discovery. So I rounded up the rest of the related videos and have embedded them all here in this post, giving you 500 classic movie lines to enjoy at your leisure.

Have fun. And don’t worry, there are plenty of sports movies sprinkled throughout. (But do worry about the language if you are at work; it is not edited or bleeped.)

The 10 Most Unrealistic Sports Scenes In Movie History

karate-kid-crane-kick

After Jerod posted about Blue Chips, my favorite sports movie of all time, I began mentally running through my favorite sports scenes in movies.

Unfortunately, I ended up thinking more about the bad sports scenes in movie history.  The more I thought about it, the more I was surprised, and then outraged, that such bad representations of athletic prowess had been splattered all over our television and movie screens for years.  I decided to make a top-10 list of the least realistic sports scenes ever shot.

Review of ESPN 30 for 30 Film Without Bias: Len Bias Saved Lives by Losing His

30-for-30

“From my perspective, he saved a lot of our lives. Plain and simple.”

These were the final words of Without Bias, ESPN’s latest documentary in its superb 30 for 30 series. It is impossible to know for how many people specifically that lines applies, but to put it in the hundreds of thousands probably would not be an overstatement.

The hour long film, which premiered tonight and was directed by Kirk Fraser, chronicles the life and death of Len Bias, who passed away 23 years ago when I was only four years old, but whose legacy lives on in perpetuity…today and beyond.

There were some aspects of the story that I did not know before watching it tonight, most notably that Bias had done cocaine before the night he died and that his brother Jay died four years later. Despite these surprises, the familiar feeling and lessons of the Bias story remained true and as strong as ever:

  1. You never know which seconds will be your last.
  2. Never underestimate the cruel power of drugs.
