Every year, a 12-seed upsets a 5-seed. That’s why the first rule of NCAA Tournament bracket predicting is: thou shalt predict a 12 seed to beat a 5 seed. In this post I’ll analyze the 5-12 matchups and tell you which ones are good upset picks and which ones are not, and then we’ll crowdsource opinions from everyone.

With Selection Sunday just a couple days away, this will be Andy Bottoms’ last bubble watch of the season, although he will still be posting daily bracket projections. Even at this late stage, there is a ton of uncertainty in terms of the last few at-large spots. In some cases, mid-majors that lost early have been able to sit back and allow the ineptitude of others to give them a better shot.
