I think it’s very safe to say that Jonathan Toews is going to be in NHL MVP talks by the end of the season.

It’s been two weeks since the Vancouver Canucks ended the Chicago Blackhawks’ season, and since then my sadness has already passed, now replaced by optimism and excitement for next season.
While the 2010-11 season wasn’t as much fun, and was far more painful than the Stanley Cup season, there was still a lot to cheer and to be happy about for ‘Hawks fans.
The last two weeks for the Blackhawks have been the best played, most productive, and most fun to watch weeks of the entire 2010-11 season. They haven’t been the most perfect weeks, but fans aren’t asking for perfection; they want their team to find ways to win.
And that’s exactly what the Blackhawks are doing.
As of Thursday, the ‘Hawks have a six game winning streak and are now tied with Phoenix for fourth place in the Western Conference. But why, so late into the season, are the defending Stanley Cup champions playing so well?
Sunday night was a huge night for Blackhawks’ captain Jonathan Toews. Not only did the team score four times in the third period, leading to a 6-3 victory over division rival Nashville, but Jonathan Toews netted his 100th career goal.
It’s been quite a journey for the centerman from Winnipeg.
He’s won a Stanley Cup, an Olympic gold medal, and the Conn Smythe trophy. He has a great career ahead of him.
In celebration of Toews’s 100th goal, let’s take a look back at the top 5 goals of his career.
Thursday night’s game against the San Jose Sharks ended in 5-3 fashion, but what scared me the most was seeing the Blackhawks blow another closely fought game.
It’s been one of the worst storylines of the year. Third periods have been hell for the Hawks. They’ve given up 47 goals in the third period – easily running away with that dubious NHL award this season.
But this one seemed to hurt even worse.
As an avid Blackhawks fan who loves to read about the team I love non-stop, I am pretty well-read about what other fans and bloggers think about this year’s Chicago Blackhawks.
After reading many blogs and websites, even this one, I’ve come to the conclusion that Blackhawks fans don’t really like Marty Turco. His stats aren’t incredible, I’ll give them that, but Turco’s numbers are not a product of him having failed to play well in goal.
The players around him have failed to play good hockey.
Monday night was a painful night for the Blackhawks’ defense. It was another reminder of how much worse this defense looks to the fans, coaches, and the players themselves. It’s becoming so bad that it’s starting to eat away at the team.

For the first time in all season, the Chicago Blackhawks looked unstoppable. A 5-0 win and a hat trick will do that.
Wednesday night’s game looked, felt , and had, all the aspects of a game from last season.
It was all about puck control.
For the second year in a row a Chicago Blackhawk will be on the cover of the always much-anticipated NHL game EA Sports releases every year.
Last year it was Patrick Kane. This year it’s Blackhawks’ captain Jonathan Toews.
Chicago’s long 49-year wait for a Stanley Cup is finally over after a 4-3 OT win over the Philadelphia Flyers.
Chicagoans are going crazy, blasting fireworks in the street, and jumping all over reporters as they try to report the victory.
Yes, it’s all smiles in Chicago wherever there are Hawk fans because the Hawks have brought the sacred Stanley Cup home to Chicago, a place it hasn’t been since 1961.
The Blackhawks went into Vancouver and brought everything they had, winning both games and taking a definite command over the series, now being up 3-1.
With the Hawks heading back to the United Center for Sunday night’s game, all signs point towards the Hawks putting the Canucks out of their misery and taking the series.
Besides the first game of the series, the goaltending battle is being won by Hawks’ net-minder, Antti Niemi. He’s been rock solid for the Hawks, not perfect, but he doesn’t need to be when your team can score seven goals, and make Luongo look like a rookie goalie.
The Chicago Blackhawks played in what could have been classified as both a hockey game and a boxing match.
It was by far the most physical game Chicago has played this season, but the physical nature of the game didn’t get in the way of the Hawks controlling the game.
In fact it was so physical that Hawk players Cam Barker and Ben Eager were both ejected for game misconducts, and captain Jonathan Toews even dropped the gloves for only the second time of his career.
It was a night of cheap shots and huge checks. Probably the biggest checks of the game was St Louis’ Mike Weaver’s hit on forward Patrick Sharp. Weaver hit Sharp center ice just as Sharp was looking up after getting control of the puck. The hit sent Sharp crashing to the ice and a retaliation by Cam Barker.
Patrick Kane was the butt of a cheap shot, a clearly evident forearm to the upper chest. No foul was called, but the Hawks knew that they were going to have to get more physical than usual.
No matter how physical the game is or how many hits a team laid on its opponents, all that matters is the score, and the Hawks beat the Blues in that category.
After much anticipation, Chicago Blackhawk fans got what they were hoping to hear. Three Hawk players will be playing for Canada during the 2010 Olympic games in Vancouver next February.

Cristobal Huet, not to be outdone by teammate Antti Niemi, shut out the St. Louis Blues 3-0. That’s the second shutout for Huet this year, but that’s not the important issue here.
What’s more important is I am seeing some really strong potential for a Stanley Cup championship this year now that it seems like the Hawks no longer have a goaltender problem.
The Chicago Blackhawks have officially signed forwards Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, and defender Duncan Keith.
Kane and Toews received identical 5 year contracts reportedly worth $31.5 million($6.3 million a season). Keith received a 13 year contract worth a total of $72 million(@5.54 million a season).
