Hawks’ Toews, Seabrook Might Play Saturday

During the 2-3 loss to the Vancouver Canucks, the Hawks’ captain Jonathan Toews and defender Brent Seabrook were injured.

Both are on the injury report with upper body injuries, and the report says that they “PROGRESSED WELL OVERNIGHT, COULD PLAY SATURDAY.”

“Seabs and Johnny both presented well today,” Quenneville said after practice on Thursday. “They progressed well overnight, so it’s encouraging in those regards.”

Marian Hossa Injury Update

Marian Hossa, forward for the Chicago Blackhakws, recently answered some questions about his decision to let doctors perform surgery on his right rotator cuff.

Hossa said the recovery was coming along well, and that he doesn’t have a different timetable other than what the doctors have said. Hossa is scheduled to miss two months of the regular season.

Marion Barber Injury Update: Pulled Leg Muscle, Left Game

marion barber injury update: pulled leg muscle, left gameMarion Barber left tonight’s Cowboys-Giants game with what appeared to be a pulled leg muscle.

After getting behind the Giants’ D and appearing poised to scamper all the way to the end zone, Barber pulled up and eventually tumbled over about 10 yards shy of the end zone. It was apparent from the replay that Barber pulled a muscle in his leg.

Felix Jones ultimately scored a TD on the drive, but Barber left the game and was immediately pronounced out for the remainder of the contest, which New York won 33-31.

Barber ran for 124 yards on 18 carries and scored a touchdown. He also caught two passes for 31 yards. After the Cowboys’ coaches watch tonight’s film, they’ll have to ask themselves why they called anything but running plays.

On 29 carries, the Cowboys averaged a whopping 8.7 yards per carry. Tony Romo, on 29 pass attempts, threw for 127 yards and 3 INTs.

I have seen no specific injury updates on Barber as of yet, other than he left the game and did not return, but I’ll update this post as soon as I hear anything.

Update: The injury that knocked Marion Barber out of last night’s game is being called a left quad strain, according to Yahoo Sports (via Rotowire). Barber did walk off the field under his own power, and the injury does not appear severe. Obviously if you are a Barber owner, you want to own Felix Jones and Tashard Choice as well (if possible), and be sure to monitor Barber’s status throughout the week.

Update 9/22: Newy Scruggs of NBC 5 in Dallas is reporting (hat tip: PFT) that Marion Barber will miss 1-2 weeks with the quad strain that he suffered Monday night. Because the Cowboys don’t play until Monday, I would not consider Barber to be definitely out this week. Check the injury reports, but make sure you have a contingency plan (or Felix Jones/Tashard Choice) because you will most likely have to make the decision Sunday as to whether or not you’re going to wait until Monday for the final word on Barber’s availability.

Update 9/23: Definitely keep your eye on Marion Barber’s status. The latest update, at least according to ESPN, is that Barber received treatment yesterday and hopes to play Monday night.  Looks like this will be a Sunday morning decision and you’ll just have to base your thoughts on Barber’s status for Monday night — which will obviously influence the fantasy value of Felix Jones and Tashard Choice value — on as much info as you have.

Michael Floyd, Jimmy Clausen Injury Update: Broken Collar Bone for Floyd, Likely Out Rest of Season

michael-floyd-injury-update

michael floyd injury update | jimmy clausen injury updateThe good news for Notre Dame over the weekend is that they squeaked by Michigan State to run their record to 2-1 and keep their BCS “hopes” alive.

The bad news for Notre Dame over the weekend is that their two most productive offensive players — WR Michael Floyd and QB Jimmy Clausen — both left the Michigan State game hobbled.

The injury update news according to ESPN.com, is much better for Clausen than it is for Floyd.

Michael Floyd, who was averaging an insane 160 yards receiving per game entering Saturday’s contest with the Spartans, had surgery today to repair a broken collar bone. The most up-to-date injury update on Floyd is that he will most likely miss the season. He could possibly return for a bowl game.

Jimmy Clausen has a yet-to-be-defined injury to his foot that did not require Sunday X-Rays. It appears to be something like turf toe or a general arch injury and Clausen will undergo an MRI to determine what exactly is wrong.

I’ll update this post if/when I hear anything more on Clausen’s injury.

LaDainian Tomlinson Injury Update: Injured Ankle, Status Uncertain for Week 2

ladainian-tomlinson-injury-update

ladainian tomlinson injury update - injured ankle for LT, status for week 2 versus baltimore uncertainLaDainian Tomlinson was one of the more controversial running backs heading into 2009 fantasy football drafts, as his history of consistent production and his advancing age collided to form a maelstrom of differing opinions on his potential for 2009.

In the end, despite his age (30) and 2008 struggles, most drafts saw L.T. get plucked at some point in the mid- to late-first round.

Still, there is no doubt that anyone drafting L.T. had to be more than a little nervous about investing their 1st round pick in a player who is fighting against the stacked history of running backs struggling once they reach 30 years old.

After one week, the L.T. results for 2009 can only be described one way: mixed.

If you did not stay up for the second Monday night game last night between San Diego and Oakland, you missed a thrilling 4th quarter in which Oakland took the lead late on a 4th and 15 TD pass by JaMarcus Russell only to see Philip Rivers and San Diego go right down the field and score a TD of their own to capture a 24-20 victory.

You also missed LaDainian Tomlinson having to spend most of the second half on the bench with an ankle injury.

Follow the links to StubHub for great deals on San Diego Chargers tickets and all 2009 NFL tickets.

The game was not a complete loss, however, as Tomlinson scored a touchdown in the first half and averaged 4.2 yards per carry on 13 rushes, generating 55 yards. He also had one reception.

The early Monday injury update on Tomlinson is that there really isn’t one, except that he was “limping badly after the game” according to The San Diego Union-Tribune (via PFT’s LT injury update). Tomlinson says that the ankle injury was not bad enough to keep him from playing, but said that it did tighten up on him in the second half.

In Tomlinson’s absence, Darren Sproles ran for only 23 yards on 9 carries, but did show his usual giddy-up while gathering 43 yards on 5 receptions.

We likely won’t know more about Tomlinson’s ankle injury until later in the week, and even then surely Norv Turner and the Chargers will milk the uncertainty over LT’s status as much as they can. With a tough game coming up against the usually ruthless Ravens’ defense, I would expect to hear very little substantive about LT until late in the week, if at all.

I’ll update this post as more information becomes available about Tomlinson’s injury. I’d make sure you have a backup plan ready, and then be pleasantly surprised if and when you don’t have to use it.

Donovan McNabb Injury Update: Leaves Game with Broken Rib, Status Uncertain

donovan-mcnabb-injury-update

donovan mcnabb injury update - broken rib - status, return unknownDonovan McNabb left today’s Eagles-Panthers game with an apparent rib injury. He walked off the field under his own power and went to the locker room. No further updates available yet on his status.

Kevin Kolb is mopping up the massacre as Jake Delhomme has thrown 4 picks.

And now for some updates, as of 5:00 CT on Sunday night.

The initial prognosis and injury update on McNabb, courtesy of Pro Football Talk (via ESPN’s Chris Mortensen) is that Donovan McNabb has a broken rib. As of right now, no specific timetable is known regarding how long McNabb might be out.

A more recent post by Pro Football Talk highlights the likelihood that McNabb’s availability will hinge on his ability to withstand the pain the broken rib will provide. Additionally, the team and McNabb will have to wait until tomorrow when further tests reveal the extent of the injury and how much risk of future injury McNabb might be running by playing.

Follow the links to StubHub for great deals on Philadelphia Eagles tickets and all NFL tickets.

And, of course, there is this reality: Michael Vick is eligible to play on one more week, beginning in Week 3. It has been pretty obvious this preseason, based on the subtext of some of McNabb’s public comments, that he feels somewhat threatened by the presence of Vick. I’ll echo what the PFT guys say: Kevin Kolb may start next week, but if McNabb can walk, he’ll be on the field come Week 3.

Anthony Gonzalez Injury Update: Knee Injury Likely MCL Sprain, Initial Diagnosis 2-6 Weeks

anthony-gonzalez-injury

anthony-gonzalez-injury update, sprained mcl, miss 2-6 weeksJust caught on PFT that Anthony Gonzalez left the Colts-Jags game today with an apparent knee injury. He was reportedly unable to put any weight on the knee as he exited.

The source for the PFT report was RotoWorld, who said that Gonzalez “went down in a heap without any contact.” That’s never good.

With Marvin Harrison now no longer on the Colts, Gonzalez is being counted on to provide consistent production opposite Reggie Wayne in the Colts attack. Any extended time missed by Gonzalez will force Pierre Garcon and rookie Austin Collie into the lineup.

Follow the links to StubHub for great deals on Indianapolis Colts tickets and all NFL tickets.

More to come when it’s available.

Update: ProFootballTalk is now reporting (via Jason La Canfora of NFL.com) that Anthony Gonzalez will miss 2-6 weeks with what is being called a likely MCL sprain.

As always with injuries that happen on Sunday, will have to wait until further tests are conducted tomorrow to know for sure.

Kyle Orton Ankle Injury Status for Week 11 Packers Game: Preparing to Play

Kyle Orton Ankle Injury StatusAccording to multiple reports, Chicago Bears quarterback Kyle Orton is preparing as if he will be the starter for the Bears’ Sunday Week 11 game against the Green Bay Packers. Head Coach Lovie Smith says that Kyle Orton is not yet 100%, but that he does not need to be for him to start over Rex Grossman.

And let’s be honest, 50% of the Kyle Orton that started the season for the Bears is better than 100% of Sexy Rexy.

On the official injury report, Orton was listed as a limited participant for Wednesday’s practice.

Kyle Orton is suffering from a sprained right ankle that he injured a few weeks ago when the Bears beat Detroit. During Wednesday’s practice, Orton was reportedly able to executive some drop backs and throws, and his improvement will be monitored throughout the week before a final decision is made.

The Bears will know much more today when they see how the injured ankle of Kyle Orton responds to the work he did on Wednesday.

Olin Kreutz, Tommie Harris, and Mike Brown were all rested during Wednesday’s practice but are expected to play on Sunday.

Fantasy Football: Willie Parker Injury Update

willie-parker

Willie Parker Injury Update Week 10

(Update 11/12, 12:15PM: According to head coach Mike Tomlin, Willie Parker’s knee is no longer an issue and his shoulder injury is not a torn labrum.  Parker is expected to play this Sunday after being fitted for a shoulder harness.  For more on Willie Parker and other fantasy football injury news, head over to the Fantasy Sports Blog.)

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Willie Parker returned last week from being injured to play for the Steelers in their win over the Redskins. Unfortunately for the Steelers and for fantasy football owners who have Parker on their team, Willie Parker injured his shoulder on Monday night.

The shoulder injury will lead to Parker sitting out Sunday when the Steelers take on the Colts.

Parker is not sure how he injured the shoulder, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, but it does not appear that it will sideline him for too long. He is expected to be ready for next week and Mewelde Moore will fill in for this week. If we are lucky, perhaps our good friend Fraschetti will chime in with a comment regarding the fantasy football impact of the Willie Parker injury.

Follow the link for an update on the injury status of Ben Roethlisberger.

In other Steelers injury news, all of the following players did not practice yesterday: Hines Ward, LaMarr Woodley, DeShea Townsend, and Marvel Smith. All except for Smith are expected to play.

Also, quarterback Terry Bradshaw may still be suffering from a concussion after being tackled by Cleveland Brown Turkey Jones. Check out the video of the Turkey Jones hit on Terry Bradshaw.
