MSF Podcast with SI’s Jimmy Traina: Meeting Derek Jeter, Chiding Chip Caray, and the Greatest SI Swimsuit Model Ever

Earlier this afternoon Myles and I had the great pleasure to host SI.com’s Jimmy Traina on the latest edition of the MSF Podcast.

We are grateful that he was able to take 30+ minutes out of his afternoon to talk with us, and impressed that he was able to be so composed…what with his beloved Yankees (especially Derek and Minka) preparing for Game 1 of the 2009 World Series tonight.

But I guess when you’ve already won 27 of them and can buy your way into the playoffs every year, it’s easy to stay even keel. (Actually, more on this topic later.)

If you are not familiar with his work, Jimmy Traina runs the Hot Clicks blog on SI.com and is an editor of the always entertaining Extra Mustard section of the site, which fuses sports, pop culture, and humor. Hot Clicks is one of the most visited sports pages on a daily basis, as any publisher knows who has ever received a link from Traina.

Let’s just say it can put a strain on your server.

LOTD: Hot Clicks Featuring Great All Star Game Taco Bell Ad “It’s All About the Roosevelts”

We all know that this is the one of the slowest days of the sports year, if not the slowest.  Luckily for us, a few ultra-conservative political websites (National Review and Free Republic) decided to link to my post highlighting George Bush’s first pitch at Game 3 of the 2001 World Series, which provided a much appreciated traffic bump for the day. Though some of our commenters today have not been too pleased that I refused to rake President Obama over the coals for his less-than-stellar toss last night, we certainly appreciate their visits.

And the first link of the day is a blog that should be required daily reading for any sports fan, and a place that link to often: Hot Clicks by Jimmy Traina.  In addition to sterling pictures of Erin Andrews and Beyonce in today’s edition, Jimmy has embedded one of the highlights of last night’s All Star game: the pitch-perfect Taco Bell commercial featuring a devilishly clever parody of the song “It’s All About the Benjamins.”

The video is below, and is about as good as it gets for non-Super Bowl commercials.

Come to think of it, with the relatively poor quality of recent Super Bowl commercials, this one may be as good as it gets period.

Laugh Out Loud Videos of the Day: Pool Bloopers and Shaq Sings ‘Over the Edge’

Shaq Singing Over the EdgeA couple of quick videos that are just sublime in their awesomeness. And, as usual, were found by taking a daily perusal of Hot Clicks by Jimmy Traina.

The first one is Shaq lip-syncing the song “Over the Edge” by Akon, and was posted just a few days ago on YouTube, obviously in the aftermath of the announcement that Shaq will be in Cleveland next year. This is greatness and further proof why Shaq is one of the most entertaining athletes of all-time.

And the next video literally had be laughing the entire time. I realize that kids falling into swimming pools and dude’s getting racked by diving boards shouldn’t be funny, but damnit it is. (And it doesn’t look to me like anything beyond a few bumps and bruises occurred anyway.)

Enjoy:
