The NFL season is approaching its fourth week, and it is starting to become clear which players are for real and which ones might under-perform all year. It is a crucial time for fantasy owners to begin pruning their rosters to form the teams they want for the rest of the season.

Knowing who to add and drop, and who to put on the bench and who to start each week, is the difference between winning and losing. Here is some help for both in the Fantasy Football Week 4 Last Minute Tips.

Fantasy Football Week 4: Stats to Know for Tom Brady, Cam Newton, Fred Jackson, Darren McFadden and Mike Wallace

Tom-brady-hair-uggs

After Sunday night’s game, I felt pretty great! Sure the Colts lost, but the world got to see why Dancing With the Stars is so important to the NFL. Hines Ward was still shaking, and Joseph Addai proved his mastery in both the Featherstep and Two-Step Jig while both Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis continued their perfection of the pirouette, spinning both inside and out.

It was glorious!!!!

Then it came. Monday morning…and one of the first things I hear: Football is boring.

Boring?!?! What?? This so-called friend’s reasoning: you only get 10 seconds of play and then so much down time. It’s not worth watching. I want action. I want scoring.

Football fans know this guy is wrong, but fantasy football players REALLY know this guy is wrong. Football is heavy action, well-planned attacks where those 10 seconds can mean a game, and definitely can mean a fantasy football championship. We look at the stat lines, the little details, and try to figure out every week what is going to be the best play.

Just for this guy, lets look at some of the big stats.

Fantasy Football Week 4 Rankings: Player Rankings for Rest of Season and Week Four at QB, RB, WR, and TE

When I was a little kid, I thought that Reggie Miller was the greatest basketball player in the world.

I saw him hit tons of three pointers. I met him and got his autograph. I remembered him scoring like 130 points in 3 seconds against the Knicks.

For my entire life, all I had known was Reggie. I was used to him. I loved him. To me, he was the best. It was only later, when I stood back and objectively looked at the facts, that I realized there were better players. I had to forget everything I thought I knew, and actually look at what was really going on.

Well, it’s time for us to all do that again, only with our fantasy football players.

Fantasy Football Week 4 Rankings – Updated Friday, 10/1

fantasy-football-week-4-players-rankings-mjd

As you might know, I typically post my player rankings on Tuesdays. Well, as you definitely know, a lot can change between Tuesday and the end of the week when it comes to the outlook for certain players. Usually this has to do with injuries, but can also have to do with reports about potential game plan changes that could affect a player.

So I’m going to start posting updated rankings on Friday mornings to reflect what has been learned in the 72-or-so hours since the original posting on Tuesday.

Below are the updated fantasy football player rankings for Week 4.

Fantasy Football Week 4 Injury Updates: Steven Jackson, Jahvid Best, Cedric Benson

steven-jackson-fantasy-football-week-14-advice

I have to budget more and more time with each successive week for the Friday injury updates. Through the first two or three weeks, the fantasy-relevant injuries are usually pretty limited. But as the weeks go on, more and more top players start getting dinged up.

So sit back, relax, and strap it down as I go through a few running backs dealing with injuries that could affect their Week 4 performance, then link you to a rundown of every injury that will affect your fantasy football week 4 lineup decisions.

Fantasy Football Week 4 Player Rankings

Now that the Packers-Bears game is in the books, we can officially turn our attention to Week 4 (which we did yesterday anyway by posting our Week 4 start/sit and Week 4 waiver wire columns).

You’ll notice a few surprises on the QB chart, most notably Bruce Gradkowski sneaking into the top 15 based on the strength of his matchup (Houston) and rapport with Louis Murphy, Zach Miller, and Darren McFadden out of the backfield.

At running back, there are a lot of important injuries to keep in an eye that will greatly affect Week 4, especially with the limited roster options caused by the bye weeks. I’ll update these rankings as more information is known about the Sunday statuses of Steven Jackson, Ray Rice, Jahvid Best, and others.

Fantasy Football Week 4 Waiver Wire Steals at WR

It dawned on me that we need to start posting our waiver wire advice columns earlier in the week.

Most leagues have a 24-72 hour waiver period at the beginning of each week when no transactions can be finalized, giving everyone a chance to claim every player. If our waiver wire guidance column comes out after that time period, most of the good players are already claimed.

So this week we’re fixing that and now you can spend some time scouring the waiver wire while watching tonight’s Monday night game to see if there is anyone you want to claim.

Fantasy Football Week 4 Start Em, Sit Em Lineup Advice

Well, Week 3 was a lot like Week 1.

My top-line start ‘em, sit ‘em picks didn’t fare so well, but my secondary picks and Q&A recommendations were mostly solid.

Let’s hope this bad week followed by good week trend continues with the top-line choices in Week 4. I have a lot of making up to do to Joe Flacco and Mike Wallace owners…
