Fantasy Football Week 13 Waiver Wire Advice and Pickups

With the fantasy playoffs just around the corner, every week is critical.

Unfortunately, at this point in the season there aren’t too many gems left out on the waiver wire with the exception of those who gain value because of injury.

Still, there are a handful of players out there who just might put you over the top based on their recent play, favorable matchups, or both.

Fantasy Football Week 13 Injury Updates: Collie, Addai, Peterson, and many more

We’ve done the Week 13 start em, sit em, the Week 13 rankings, and the Week 13 waiver wire sleeper picks. Now it’s time to turn our attention to the injured players, as we do every Friday.

When Adrian Peterson – the best and most consistent player in fantasy football over the last four years – gets injured, there is no bigger news in the fantasy football world. Thus, we’ll lead off with news about the man they call All Day.

Sadly, there isn’t a whole lot of new news to pin our Week 13 hopes on.

The Week 13 start em, sit em post and the Week 13 waiver wire sleepers are already up. Below are my top 10 rankings at quarterback, running back, wide receiver, and tight end. Click for my complete Week 13 rankings.

There shouldn’t be many surprises at the top, especially at QB and WR where Michael Vick’s matchup (Houston) and Dwayne Bowe’s amazing production make them easy #1 choices. The #1 player at tight end, however, might surprise you just a bit.

Fantasy Football Week 13 Start / Sit Picks

Well friends, I am disappointed to say that I dropped another game in the P&G-sponsored Blogger Fantasy Football League*. The loss drops me to 6-6 on the season and two games out of the final playoff spot. I now need to win out and I need help. That is never a good position to be in.

So what went wrong in Week 12? It would be easy to look at the tight end position, where I chose Vernon Davis over Kevin Boss. Davis proceeded to score three points, and I lost by four. Since Kevin Boss had 70+ yards and a TD, the winning production was sitting on the bench at that one spot.

But, just like the Buffalo Bills’ loss in Week 12 cannot be totally blamed on Stevie Johnson dropping that wide open TD pass, there were other positions that could have picked up the slack. Adrian Peterson was running wild before getting hurt and having to leave the game. Vincent Jackson, who I foolishly started in his first game back*, got hurt after two plays. Neither Mike Wallace nor Mike Thomas came anywhere close to the production they’d been getting recently.

* – One of my most trusted fantasy football principles has always been that I don’t start guys who are playing in their first game back after a long layoff. I prefer to wait for them to prove on the field that they are back, even it takes two or three weeks. I like seeing before I believe. Yet, here we are in Week 12, crunch time for all of us, and I recommend Sidney Rice as my WR start ‘em and then go with Vincent Jackson in the most critical week of my season in the Blogger Fantasy League. I failed myself and I failed you. I’m sorry. This is a great example of why having principles and sticking to them is so important. In Week 12, I was a doofus, and I cost us all.

Add it all up, and most of what could go wrong did go wrong, save for Eli, BenJarvus, and Dan Carpenter coming through huge. The real surprise is that I only lost by three points with this confluence of crap that occurred.

And with that, Week 12 is over. Thanks for letting me vent. It is time to turn our attention towards Week 13, and as I did last week, I will enlist your help later this week in setting my Week 13 roster.

Fantasy Football Week 13 Sleepers

In Week 12, we learned a lot about some players we’ve been going back and forth on.

For example, Mike Goodson finally got into the end zone and proved that he’ll have value even with Jonathan Stewart healthy again (especially in PPR leagues). We also learned that WRs we previously thought were one week wonders – Jacoby Ford and Ben Obomanu, to name a couple – might need to be taken more seriously.

With many playoff positions resting on a strong Week 13 performance, I tried to dig even deeper this week to unearth potential sleepers for your lineups.

Fantasy Football Week 13 Start Em, Sit Em Lineup Advice and Projections

fantasy-football-week-13

The Week 17 start em, sit em lineup advice post is up.

——————–

Well, I was not a very good QB prognosticator last week.

I looked at Tony Romo’s struggles and his matchup (OAK) and figured he was a good sit candidate. What I failed to consider was his consistently strong play on Thanksgiving Day. He ended up busting my QB sit ‘em pick.

I looked at Carson Palmer playing the Browns and figured he was about as slam dunk a start candidate as there was, especially after the Browns made Matthew Stafford look like Drew Brees last weekend. Palmer, however, threw only one TD pass and had only 110 yards passing overall. Solid numbers, but probably not top 10 or 12.

Other than the QBs though, I was pretty solid, nailing the Justin Forsett start for the highlight of the week.

We’re now one monster fantasy game (New England-New Orleans on Monday night) away from Week 13, so let’s take a quick peek into the future and answer your burning start ‘em, sit ‘em questions for this week.
