Upon taking an innocent stroll down the Reddit front page tonight I happened upon a headline that read “Look who I found in my mom’s old high school yearbook.” Naturally curious, I clicked on the link, and who do I find at said link but everyone’s favorite sports curmudgeon Anthony “Tony” Kornheiser.

No, Stan Verrett did not say the N-word on air

I think several websites made a mistake posting a video claiming to be ESPN anchor Stan Verrett saying the N-word on air. It sure didn’t sound like it to me.

I was all ready for bed; then I saw the front page of ESPN.com, and the spectacular juxtaposition of images jarred me to the point of one more post. I’ll just let the screenshot below speak for itself before I comment:

Who’s #1?

With the lockout still raging, most NBA discussion right now is centered in ESPN’s list of the top 500 players in the league. To further focus the discussion, Jon Washburn has come up with a unique scenario that will force you to answer one very simple but important question: who is the #1 player in the NBA right now?

ESPN.com trolls Yankees ace CC Sabathia

gut-check-time-espn-cc-sabathia

Look, we all know that C.C. Sabathia is man of heft, specifically around his waistline, which is what made ESPN.com’s treatment of Sabathia tonight to be particularly unnecessary.

This just in: Skip Bayless is still a dick

skip-bayless-

The Chris Bosh hate has gone way overboard since he joined the Miami Heat. And offender #1 has been, unsurprisingly, Skip “Dick” Bayless, who proved his dickishness yet again today on ESPN’s 1st Take.

jimmy rollins, ryan howard, and chase utley

In Ari’s view, Tim Kurkjian is one of the few bright minds left at ESPN, so Ari was disappointed in Kurkjian’s response when they asked him the cliché “Can anyone beat the Phillies” question, and he basically gave the cliché answer of “I don’t think so” while ignoring the Phillies’ obvious weakness.

The University of Texas and ESPN are getting set to unveil the Longhorn Network on August 26 and it is already creating controversy before any programming has aired. The network wants show the high school games of players that are committed to Texas.

#BruceFreed: Bruce Feldman suspension (or was it?) lifted by ESPN after impressive groundswell of support and outrage from fellow journalists

bruce-feldman-suspension

As first reported on Sports by Brooks on Thursday, Bruce Feldman was suspended indefinitely by the Worldwide Leader for his work on the recently released book, Swing Your Sword, by former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach. Or was he? Either way, Feldman is back in action now after an impressive groundswell of support and outrage from his fellow journalists.

Maybe all those nasty things they say about ESPN’s hockey coverage really are true…

WinnipegJets1972Alt

Unless I missed it, and I don’t think that I did, the overnight SportsCenter (the one that ESPN airs thrice on Saturday morning between the time when my children wake me up and the time that SpongeBob SquarePants starts) made no mention of Winnipeg choosing a name for its new NHL team.

Hey ESPN, who is Miami playing in the Finals again?

This screenshot from ESPN pretty much sums up ESPN’s NBA coverage this entire season and certainly their less-than-balanced coverage during these Finals.
