2009-10 College Football Bowl Game and BCS TV Schedule, Point Spreads

Update 12/19: The college football bowl season starts tonight! Follow the link for a preview of tonight’s Rutgers-Central Florida game.

Update 12/14: The spreads and over-unders for every bowl game have now been posted below.

When I first saw the matchups for the 2009-10 college football bowl schedule, I have to admit that I was pretty underwhelmed. Yes, Alabama-Texas is the matchup that we should have for the BCS championship game, but none of the other matchups really jumped out at me as being all that compelling.

However, my frosty initial feelings have begun to thaw the more I read from people like Stewart Mandel, who know much more about college football than I do.

We are down to one week left in the 2009 college football regular season, which means there is only one last chance for a major upset that could produce a Cinderella BCS Championship Game.

Right now, the smart money would be on Texas facing the Florida-Alabama winner in the title game. Should Nebraska somehow find a way to clip Texas next week in the Big 12 Championship Game, 4th ranked TCU could squeeze its way into the title game…unless Cincinnati beats Pittsburgh and then vaults the Horned Frogs.

As much as I like Colt McCoy as a player, and as a good as a Texas v Florida/Alabama game would be, I want to see one of the “little guys” find its way into the title game.

So go Nebraska! Seriously, who wouldn’t want to see a giant wrench thrown into the BCS’ evil, diabolical plans?

And now, onto the college football tv schedule, point spreads, and picks for Week 14, aka Conference Championship Week.

Incredibly, we head into the final weekend of the college football regular season with six — six! — teams sporting undefeated records.

Florida, Alabama, Texas, TCU, Cincinnati, and Boise State all have legitimate claims to a national title shot right now, by virtue of the fact that no team has proven to be better on the field.

Obviously either Florida or Alabama will taste defeat before BCS slotting time comes, but it is quite likely that the other four teams will all maintain their spotless status. Quite likely…but they all still have to overcome their Thanksgiving weekend hurdles, and they are hurdles that should not be overlooked.

Florida, Alabama, and Texas have rivalry games against Florida State, Auburn, and Texas A&M respectively. Cincinnati must face a Big Ten foe in Illinois while Boise State has to fend off a solid Nevada squad. (TCU has a cakewalk game against New Mexico.)

College football fans are in for a tremendous amount of debate and controversy should five, four, or even three teams finish the season undefeated. What happens during Thanksgiving weekend will go a long way towards determining exactly how much debate and controversy this bowl season will have.

Thanksgiving Day Football TV Schedule: NFL and College Football

Thanksgiving Day Football TV Schedule: NFL and College Football

Today is the third Thursday in November, which means one thing and one thing only to me and many of you reading this: we are now officially one week away from the greatest meal of the year.

We are also one week away from a day when it is generally accepted in most households that the TV will be tuned to football all day long.

And, of course, we’re one week away from being able to share a wonderful day with friends and family and let them know that we are thankful for their presence in our lives.

But you don’t need our help with that. You’re here for one thing and one thing only: the Thanksgiving Day TV schedule for the NFL and college football games that will accompany our turkey, stuffing, pumpkin pie, and eventual food coma.

Let’s get right to it.

Getting a jump start on next week’s college football TV schedule and point spread post because I don’t want to have to worry about it tomorrow night. Peyton v Brady will have my attention.

Anyway, the schedule is not filled with marquee matchups (Ohio State-Michigan is the headliner, if that tells you anything) but certainly could still be a pivotal week in the overall landscape of the season if any of the top teams stumble.

All will be favored by double digits though, so don’t hold your breath.

How’s this for a one-week swing.

Last week, Iowa was on the cover of Sports Illustrated, #4 in the BCS, and being talked about as a potential BCS championship contender.

This week, they have an injured quarterback, a loss to Northwestern on their resume, are now out of the top 10, and are 13.5 point dogs to Ohio State.

So much for that BCS title, huh Hawkeyes?

Let’s look ahead to Week 11 with this week’s college football TV schedule and point spread table.

The plot is beginning to thicken, as they say, now that the calendar has turned to November.

Florida, Texas, and Alabama still appear to be the class of college football, with people still wondering exactly how good teams like Iowa, Boise State, and TCU really are.

And then there are the Oregons — teams written off because of an early season loss that have rebounded — who are charging up the top 25 and looking to play spoiler, if not outright BCS party crasher.

Let’s look ahead to Week 10 and the tv schedule and point spreads for Saturday, November 7th. LSU-Alabama is obviously the biggest game on the schedule, but there are some other ones that you’ll want to keep your eye on as well.

This past weekend featured a few surefire gems in Texas-Oklahoma and USC-Notre Dame. Neither game disappointed as both games were one possession away from the lead changing when the final buzzer sounded.

In all, there were five matchups between top 25 teams to keep college football fans excited.

This weekend? Not so much.

TCU-BYU highlights what is a pretty lackluster week of matchups. Of course, this will probably mean that Week 8 of the 2009 college football season will end up being the most dramatic; and it could be, if Mississippi State can upset Florida, or Tennessee can upset Alabama, or Missouri can upset Texas.

Of course, based on the point spreads, none of these upsets appears likely.

I have to say that I was not too enthralled by this past Saturday’s college football slate.

Sure, the buildup to Florida-LSU was intriguing, but LSU’s offense is terrible, we did not get to see vintage Tim Tebow, and the game of the week ending up being a sloppy 13-3 contest.

However, such an anti-climactic Saturday should not be in the offing this weekend.

The highlight of the Week 7 college football schedule is obviously the Red River Rivalry between Texas and Oklahoma.

This has not been a good start to the football season for me, college or pro.

The four teams that I follow and root for are: the Browns, the Dolphins, Tennessee, and Indiana. Combined, they are 6-12, with the majority of those victories coming courtesy of soft pre-conference schedules for UT and IU.

Still, despite the lack of discernible reward in terms of success, I trudge along watching college football and the NFL each weekend.

Another weekend of college football is in the books, which means that another one is fast approaching.

Last week, we saw USC drop their annual game to an inferior Pac-10 opponent as Washington pulled off the upset of the weekend by beating the Trojans.

We also saw Charlie Weis stave off the mob for at least one more week when Notre Dame held off Michigan State in South Bend.

Additionally, we watched Lane Kiffin and Tennessee hang tough but lose by 10 in The Swamp and witnessed the resurrection of The U back to national prominence behind the cool, calm, collected leadership of an impressive sophomore quarterback.

There aren’t a whole lot of great games this weekend, but certainly a few highlights worth checking out. Now that conference schedules have started, the ante gets upped each weekend.

Below are the college football games of the week, as well as our usual college football tv schedule and point spreads table.

college football tv schedule, point spreads - week 3, saturday september 19 | espn, abc, fsn, big ten networkWell, well, well.

Before we get to the Week 3 college football tv schedule and point spreads, let’s quickly review what was quite a decisive September weekend for the Big Ten that we just got done with.

Penn State still has yet to show any chinks in its armor, rolling over Syracuse 28-7, although they still have not been tested.

Ohio State was not able to shed the “can’t win the big one” label as their defense faded down the stretch against USC and Terrelle Pryor continued to look overmatched against good defenses in Jim Tressel’s system.

Michigan, of course, re-announced its presence on the national scene with a thrilling victory over Notre Dame that vaulted it back into the top 25.

And my alma mater Indiana moved to 2-0 on the young season with a tough, hard-fought 23-19 victory over…Western Michigan. (I won’t start getting excited until the Hoosiers beat someone without a direction at the beginning of their name.)

Actually, the truth is that no one care what Indiana last weekend. But Minnesota, Wisconsin, Northwestern, and Iowa all moved to 2-0. Say what you will about the competition, but being only four games away from bowl eligibility (for those who have not yet feasted on an FCS opponent) in mid-September is always a good thing.

So what does Week 3 of the college football season — for everyone, not just the Big Ten — have in store? Honestly, not nearly as many compelling matchups as last weekend. Still, there are a few highlights, starting with the two weekday games we have to look forward to on this week’s college football TV schedule:

college football tv schedule, point spreads - week 3, saturday september 19 | espn, abc, fsn, big ten network

  • Tennessee-Florida Date: Saturday, September 19th
  • Tennessee-Florida State Kickoff Time: 3:30 ET

  • Nebraska-Virginia Tech Kickoff Time: 3:30 ET
  • Nebraska-Virginia Tech TV Channel: ABC (Regional Coverage)
  • Nebraska-Virginia Tech Point Spread: Virginia Tech -3.5

Honestly, I could list some other games, but they really are all about the same. If there was ever a week to use your Saturday for something productive, this one is it. Not a whole lot of highlights.

Which, of course, means it will be the week that three top-10 teams fall. Maybe. Or maybe not.

Anyway, down below is the college football tv schedule and point spreads table that you’ve become accustomed to here at MSF. We pride ourselves on having the most complete TV listings possible. If you see one that we somehow missed, please use the comment section to alert us. And, as always, all times are ET.

It didn’t take long for the 2009 college football season to take an unexpected turn, and for one of the prime BCS candidates to hit a major roadblock.

Oklahoma fell to BYU this past weekend, in large part because the Sooners’ offensive line struggled and allowed Sam Bradford to get flattened. The 2008 Heisman Trophy winner sprained his throwing shoulder in the process, and his return date is till unclear.

The Sooners look to rebound this weekend against Idaho State, and should have no trouble doing so, but now face the daunting task of running the table with no margin for error should they hope to compete for a BCS National Championship game.

Despite its importance to fans in Norman, the OU-Idaho State game is not one of this week’s marquee matchups. Among the most compelling games on the college football week 2 schedule (for the week of Saturday, September 12th) are the following:
