Welcome to a Very Special Episode (VSE) of the Call to the Bullpen. No, we aren’t tackling bullying or Jessie’s speed problems, Corey and I are locked in of the MLB trade deadline coming up on the 31st. So we’ve thrown out our format for the week to focus exclusively of the deadline.
In the first major trade of the 2012 MLB season, the Chicago White Sox traded Zach Stewart and Brent Lillibridge to the Boston Red Sox for the services of Kevin Youkilis. Seizing the opportunity, Corey and I decided to have the boss man, Jerod Morris, on to talk about how this deal will affect Chicago and to go into greater detail of what exactly the BoSox are getting in return.
An amazing week of pitching has just wrapped up. Phillip Humber threw the 21st perfect game in MLB history. Cliff Lee and Matt Cain had one of the greatest pitching duels of the past decade and Bartolo Colon turned in an improbable performance Wednesday. Corey and Pat get into it on all these subjects and more.
Earlier this week, Alex Rodriguez tied his former teammate Ken Griffey Jr. for 5th on baseball’s all-time home run list. But why doesn’t this get us going anymore? Have all the PED issues and recent broken records made us complacent? Corey and I talk at length about A-Rod, Jim Thome, and records in general.
