Donald Sterling’s troubles are far from over. The Los Angeles Clippers owner is still facing the wrath of the sporting world for the vile audio recordings that went public Friday night, but things could be about to get worse. Reports now suggest Sterling is trying to block additional recordings from being released.
TMZ is reporting that Sterling has reached out to ex-girlfriend V. Stiviano to try and stop her from releasing more than 100 hours of additional recordings, including some that would even further damage his reputation. According to the site, Sterling asked her “How can we made this go away?,” and she told him to contact her lawyer.
Stiviano told TMZ that the recordings were made at Sterling’s request, because he often forgot things he said and wanted them to help refresh his memory.
It’s hardly a shock that the tapes that have been released are just the tip of the iceberg. Sterling has long been known to have serious issues with race, and this most recent story hasn’t come as a shock to anyone who actually knows his history. An extended version of the initial tape was released on Sunday.
Now that it has become public that there is more audio, it will be interesting to see how this is handled. Sterling’s ex could probably make more money releasing those tapes to media outlets and going on an interview tour than she would by allowing him to pay her off. TMZ also reports that she is in the process of writing a book.
I think it’s a safe bet that those other recordings are going to find their way to the public sooner rather than later.
Things are about to get a whole lot worse for Sterling.
