Some New York Jets think Santonio Holmes is milking foot injury

Santonio Holmes doesn’t have the greatest reputation around the NFL and his work-ethic has been a problem before. Now, reports suggest some within the New York Jets organization believe the 29-year-old receiver is milking his current foot injury and probably should be playing.

Santonio HolmesThe New York Post is reporting that Holmes has received medical clearance to begin football activities, but that he is resisting. Dr. Robert Anderson of North Carolina performed foot surgery on Holmes and has reportedly cleared him. People around the team think he is simply just trying to avoid participating in training camp. Holmes is complaining that the pain in his foot “won’t go away.”

Ever since the Jets signed him to a five-year, $45.25 million contract in 2011, Holmes’ effort has been questioned by many around football. His deal includes $24 million in guarantees and New York hasn’t gotten close to that value from its presumptive No. 1 receiver.

Holmes suffered a Lisfranc injury in his foot in Week 4 last season and missed the rest of the year. And since signing his deal in 2011, Holmes has recorded just 71 receptions for 926 yards and nine touchdowns in 20 games. That’s not exactly lighting the world on fire.

But right now the Jets have an absolutely brutal receiving corps, which is why they can’t let Holmes go. When Stephen Hill, Jeremy Kerley and Braylon Edwards are your other top options at wideout, you have some serious problems at the position. That’s what Gang Green is looking at if Holmes is let go.

The bottom line is that it has been 11 months since Holmes suffered his injury. The fact that he’s not back on the field yet is pretty ridiculous. Yes it was a bad injury, but he has had more than enough time to recover.

  1. They really need to ensure if his injured foot is definitely fine now or not before he comes back in the game. Certainly, if his foot is still not okay, it will affect his performance while playing.

  2. He is milking it. Another one of Tannenbum’s wonderful contracts!
