Video: Byron Buxton makes incredible catch

When the Minnesota Twins made Byron Buxton the No. 2 pick in the 2012 MLB Draft, they knew they were getting a supremely athletic, toolsy high school outfielder who could play some incredible defense. Buxton also had the added value of being a guy who will likely stick in center field. So far, the kid has lived up to the hype.

On Monday night, Buxton made one of the better catches I’ve seen in a long time while playing center for the Low Class A Cedar Rapids Kernels. On the play, the 19-year-old races back to his right before making a ridiculous, flying dive to grab the ball deep in the left center field gap.

Buxton was recently listed as the No. 2 prospect in all of baseball by ESPN’s Keith Law. So far in 2013 Buxton is hitting .342 with seven home runs and 44 RBIs. He has a .439 on-base percentage and a .562 slugging percentage. In short, he’s tearing up the Midwest League and is knocking on the door of a promotion.

You can be sure this isn’t the last time you’ll hear his name.
