The wave of elation that overcame me after Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook scored the game winning goal in overtime of Game 7 against the hated Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday night could not possibly be measured.
The “Madhouse on Madison” also felt the same way. Listen to the deafening roar after the puck hits the back of the net. It’s so loud the speakers could barely handle it.
That’s the stuff that gives you goosebumps after watching.
The fans and I weren’t the only ones more than happy. Seabrook’s victory yell perfectly sums up the feelings felt by all Blackhawks fans.
You can almost watch the burden come off of Seabrook’s back with that yell. A sigh of relief came with it because after a blown call (to put it mildly) late in the third period that disallowed a Blackhawks goal, Chicago fans were worried that it could lead to the end of the team’s season.
But the Blackhawks stayed strong against a better-coached Red Wings team and, with the help of their third and fourth lines, proved to be the better side in overtime, as they overcame a 3-1 series deficit.
The series win even made head coach, Joel Quenneville, smile, and frankly, that’s something I had never seen before.
The Blackhawks now move on to play play the Los Angeles Kings in the Western Conference finals, starting on Saturday. But let’s not fret over how to get the puck past Kings goalie Jonathan Quick (it’s almost impossible), and enjoy this sweet victory for the next few days.
And by enjoying this sweet victory, I mean repeatedly watching this hilarious GIF of Michael Frolik’s and Detroit’s reaction to Frolik scoring on a penalty shot in Game 6.
