Dallas Cowboys at Washington Redskins: Sunday Night Football Preview and Prediction

The NFC East will be decided on Sunday night in Washington when the Cowboys head to town to take on the Redskins. Both teams need a win to control their own playoff destiny, as neither has clinched a spot yet.

The only way for the Cowboys to reach the playoffs is for them to win this game.

They have bounced back after a 3-5 start and have won five of their last seven. Their loss against New Orleans last week took away their chance at a possible wild card berth, but that would have been difficult to achieve anyway, so their win or go home scenario this week for the division is basically what they would have had if they had beaten New Orleans.

The Cowboys have certainly kept it interesting for their fans as they have not had a final score be by a margin of more than seven in their last six games. The game by seven came against the Redskins on Thanksgiving day, in a game that saw the Cowboys lose by the score of 38-31.

They did outgain the Redskins 458-437 in total yards, but a 28-3 halftime deficit put the Cowboys too far behind to make a comeback. They allowed four touchdown passes to Robert Griffin III, and will have to limit him this time around to have any chance at winning. They will also need to hold Alfred Morris to under 100 yards, which is much easier said than done.

Washington Redskins

The Redskins have won their last six games after a 3-6 start to the season. It is a truly impressive run, and even featured one game with Kirk Cousins as the starting quarterback.

The game with Cousins at quarterback came against Cleveland, in an easy 38-21 win. This followed an overtime win over Baltimore, that saw Cousins come in late to throw a touchdown, followed by the game-tying two-point conversion. The game was won with a field goal in overtime, that really kept the playoff hopes alive for the Redskins at the time.

The Redskins are so hot right now that it is tough to pick against them. They have already beaten Dallas once this season, and if not for a late game comeback, the score would have been a blowout in Washington’s favor. With Griffin III and Morris healthy they are nearly unstoppable.

Cowboys-Redskins Prediction

The Redskins will keep their winning streak going and make it to the playoffs as the NFC East champions.

Dallas will just miss out on the playoffs once again, which will call into question the job security of many of the coaches and players.
