Sunday Night Football: Houston Texans at Chicago Bears Preview and Prediction

Two of the best teams in the NFL meet up on Sunday night: the 7-1 Houston Texans head to Chicago to take on the 7-1 Bears.

Both are at the top of their respective divisions, and are in the top two spots of their respective conferences. The winner of this game will cement themselves as one of the top, if not the top, teams in the NFL.

Houston Texans

The Texans are the top team in the AFC. Their only loss this season came against the Packers, and that was quickly made up for with a 43-13 win over the Ravens one week later. (It must be noted that the Ravens are the second best team in the AFC with a record of 6-2.)

Houston has dominated their opponents on both sides of the ball this season. In their seven wins, five are by double-digits, with the other two being by six points each. Take away the 25 points scored by Denver in a 31-25 win for Houston, the most points the defense has allowed in the remaining six wins is 17 points.

The Bears have one of the worst offenses, in terms of yards per game, in the league. Their defense is their strong suit, and they will have a tough time trying to stop Houston’s dominant offense. Arian Foster already has ten rushing touchdowns, and he is well on his way to 1,500 yards. The Bears only allow an average of 88 rushing yards a game, which will certainly be challenged on Sunday night.

Chicago Bears

The Bears are the second-best team in the NFC by record, only behind the undefeated Falcons. Just like the Texans, the Bears only loss of the season came against the Packers, which came back in Week 2.

Last week’s game against Tennessee was over early on, and ended with the final score of 51-20. They have won six games in a row, with four of those coming by double-digits. They had close calls in Weeks 7 and 8, with a six-point win Lions followed by a one-point win over the Panthers.

A 51-point outburst will not occur again this week, so the Bears will have to find a way to muster up some offense against the Texans’ defense. The Texans are great at stopping the run and pass, so it is tough to say where the Bears should focus their offense. The passing game may be their best choice due to the fact that Aaron Rodgers had six touchdowns against Houston in their only loss.

Texans-Bears Prediction

This game is very evenly matched, but the Texans have a slight edge due to their defense. It should be a close game, but one where the Texans find a way to win.
