MSF Big Ten Picks: Final Week Recap

The first ever MSF Big Ten picks contest has officially concluded.

It was an enjoyable time making these selections this year, even though the football wasn’t the best we’ve ever seen. Kevin wins this year’s contest by a total of 8 points, so congratulations to my Buckeye fanatic friend.

See how the tie, the hat, and the hand placement match? That’s not an accident.

As we say farewell, we thank you for taking time to read through our predictions and recaps and hope to bring more aspects to the picks contest next season.

Here were our final selections, keeping in mind that we didn’t pick the Nebraska/Iowa game, which ended in a 13-7 win for the Huskers.

Illinois vs. Northwestern

  • Kevin’s Pick – Northwestern 41-14
  • Dustin’s Pick – Northwestern 27-10
  • Final Score – Northwestern 50-14

A nine-win season for the Wildcats and the fans still think “what could have been.” Close losses to Michigan and Nebraska cost this team a shot at the Big Ten championship, but nine wins is still an incredible mark in Evanston. Illinois is just happy the 2012 season has finally come to an end.

#19 Michigan vs. Ohio State

  • Kevin’s Pick – Ohio State 35-27
  • Dustin’s Pick – Ohio State 26-23
  • Final Score – Ohio State 26-21

“The Game” didn’t disappoint this year, as Ohio State finishes the season undefeated with a big win over its biggest rival. It would have been great if this team was bowl-eligible, which more-than-likely would have created a Midwest National Championship game, as the Fighting Irish also concluded the season unbeaten.

Indiana vs. Purdue

  • Kevin’s Pick – Purdue 34-28
  • Dustin’s Pick – Purdue 32-10
  • Final Score – Purdue 56-35

Purdue’s bowl berth and bucket victory wasn’t enough to save Danny Hope’s job, as Kevin pointed out in his predictions. For the Boilers, it’s now up to Morgan Burke to hire the right guy for the job to reclaim a dismantled fan base. Indiana looks like a team headed in the right direction. It will be interesting to see how the Hoosiers play next season.

Michigan State vs. Minnesota

  • Kevin’s Pick – Michigan State 20-19
  • Dustin’s Pick – Minnesota 31-21
  • Final Score – Michigan State – 26-10

Michigan State had a big win on Saturday, which allows it to get back to a bowl game this season. It was a disappointing year in East Lansing, but at least the Spartans have the opportunity to play that 13th game this season.

Wisconsin vs. Penn State

  • Kevin’s Pick – Penn State 21-14
  • Dustin’s Pick – Wisconsin 24-23
  • Final Score – Penn State 24-21

A great finish for the Nittany Lions and a disappointing loss for the Badgers. It was great to see Penn State come away with eight wins, with all that happened the past year at the University. Wisconsin, is now the third place team in the Leaders division and will compete for a title. Which is just sad

Season Totals

  • Kevin – 78 – WINNER!!
  • Dustin – 70 – Loser
