Kansas City Chiefs at San Diego Chargers Preview, Point Spread, and Prediction

With the Denver Broncos being the new team to beat in the AFC West, the Chiefs and Chargers are beginning to free fall. The Chiefs have lost four in a row, while the Chargers have lost three.

One team will break their streak this week, but it will not be in impressive fashion.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are facing a countless number of problems. They are 1-6 on the season, with their only win coming over the Saints in overtime in Week 3. Without that surprising win, they would have the worst record in the NFL, which is not to say that they are not playing like the worst team.

The poor play led Romeo Crennel to try Brady Quinn at quarterback instead of Matt Cassel. Quinn could do nothing to make a difference, and he only played in one full game. He suffered a concussion last week that led to Cassel returning to the starting spot.

The Chiefs do not come in towards the bottom in league rankings, which is surprising given their record. They are 12th in yards per game on offense, and third in rushing yards per game. On defense, they come in at eighteenth in yards allowed per game.

Based on the stats the Chiefs should easily have more than one win, but they are actually blown out in most of their losses. The lone exception came in a 9-6 loss against Baltimore in Week 5. This game may be another exception, as the Chargers are facing similar struggles.

San Diego Chargers

The Chargers were 3-1 before three straight losses. All three of the losses were tough to swallow in their own way. The first loss came against New Orleans and was the Saints’ first win of the season.

The next game was the following Monday night against Denver in which the Chargers took a 24-0 lead into halftime. The Broncos proceeded to score 35 unanswered second-half points to win the game. It was one of the worst collapses in recent history, but the Chargers had an upcoming bye week to collect themselves.

The Chargers went to Cleveland last Sunday in what should have been an easy victory. Instead, the Browns made just a few less mistakes than San Diego to win the game 7-6. Phillip Rivers was visibly frustrated throughout the game, and had reason to be. His entire team is struggling, and dropped passes are no way to get back on the right track.

Chiefs-Chargers Prediction

One team will end their losing streak in this game, and it is looking like the team that will make the fewest mistakes will be the Chargers. San Diego will win simply on talent in this game, but their season is still heading towards disaster.

Chargers 24 – Chiefs 13
