Video: This is How 66,000 MLS Fans Look and Sound

Sunday night, the Cascadia Cup was all the rage.

Portland versus Seattle at CenturyLink Field in Seattle.  It was sold out.  More than 66,000 fans showed up to witness the Sounders dust off the Timbers, 3-0.

The pageantry was thick with commitments, including huge signs, painted faces all around, and never-ending boisterous chants.

The game ended beautifully for Seattle fans, as their two leading scorers, Eddie Johnson and Fredy Montero, both scored goals.

It wasn’t close on the scoreboard, but it looked like the crowd got there money’s worth.  For those who weren’t there, they may want to be there the next time.  It looked like the place to be.

If MLS Cup is held at CenturyLink Field in November, it will be extremely tough for any team to beat Seattle and for any fan to get a ticket.  The fans give the Sounders players an emotional lift and make any visiting team feel completely unworthy.

One unique moment was when the announcer referred to Montero as the ‘Full Monty’ after he thought Montero had scored a goal, but Freddy never took any parts of his uniform off.  Later, on another play, instead of giving Montero credit for a goal, the announcer tried to take credit away.

The Cascadia Cup is still up for grabs after Portland’s missed opportunity.  Cascadia Cup is played between Portland, Seattle and Vancouver with the team mounting the most points among ties(1) and wins (3) taking the crown for the year.
