The theme for this week’s recap should be “One is the loneliest number…” seeing as how I picked only a single game correctly this past week.
I am almost too embarrassed to continue the recap of last week’s games and pick.
Almost.
Kevin had another solid performance and no looks like he will coast to the finish line for victory in the first season of MSF Big Ten picks. While he begins his celebration dance, I am going to do the only thing I can do right now….play for pride and try to make the final outcome look respectable by the end of the year.
While I wipe away the tears after a catastrophic week, take a look at how the weekend went for our selections:
Iowa vs. Northwestern
- Kevin’s pick – Northwestern 35-17
- Dustin’s pick – Northwestern 29-25
- Final score – Northwestern 28-17
The Wildcats put on a pretty good show this week, and I am sure Kevin is wishing the Wildcats could have put up another touchdown in this game, which would have given him the first correct score of the season. It’s not surprising that Iowa didn’t force this one to come down to the end, nobody seems to be able to get a beat on the Hawkeyes.
Indiana vs. Illinois
- Kevin’s pick – Indiana 41-31
- Dustin’s pick – Illinois 36-34
- Final score – Indiana 31-17
Despite my concerns about IU on the road, the Hoosiers got the job done and got their first Big Ten win for Kevin Wilson since he took over the program. This wasn’t a fun game to watch, even though Illinois put up a fight for most of the game.
Purdue vs. Minnesota
- Kevin’s pick – Purdue 35-21
- Dustin’s pick – Purdue 31-10
- Final score – Minnesota 44-28
Purdue should be ashamed of their performance against the Gophers this past weekend. It was embarrassing to the program, especially considering this was supposed to be their “big year.” Hats off to Minnesota, they came ready to play on Saturday.
Michigan State vs. #25 Wisconsin
- Kevin’s pick – Wisconsin 21-9
- Dustin’s pick – Wisconsin 28-14
- Final score – Michigan State 16-13
I was shocked that Wisconsin wasn’t able to seal the deal against Michigan State. This just shows how truly miserable to Big Ten Conference is this season. This game shouldn’t have been much of a contest for the Badgers.
Ohio State vs. Penn State
- Kevin’s pick – Ohio State 24-23
- Dustin’s pick – Penn State 22-19
- Final score – Ohio State 35-23
I’m not surprised that the Buckeyes won this week, after all, Urban Meyer is the head coach. I had to go with Penn State since the game was in Happy Valley and considering how well the Nittany Lions had played, it was almost a toss up. Ohio State looked pretty good in this win and look like they could finish the season unbeaten.
#22 Michigan vs. Nebraska
- Kevin’s pick – Nebraska 23-21
- Dustin’s pick – Michigan 34-24
- Final score – Nebraska 23-9
Another rough weekend for Michigan. The Sea of Red was ready to help cheer its team to victory and it just did that. Right now, the Legends division race has become even more interesting with the Huskers victory.
