MSF Big Ten Picks: Week 7 Recap

For the first time this season, I actually get the opportunity to gloat about a perfect week of picks.

Though I only gained one point on Kevin after the seventh week in the college football world, it is still a big achievement for me in what appears to be a rough season of college football selections.

big-ten-10-picks-logoThe only game separating Kevin and I this week? Iowa’s win over Michigan State.

While I did believe that Iowa was more than capable of getting a victory in East Lansing, I was also taking a chance, hoping to gain a little bit of ground in this competition.

Here are the rest of how week seven in the conference turned out:

Iowa vs. Michigan State

  • Kevin’s Pick – Michigan State 20-16
  • Dustin’s Pick – Iowa 26-21
  • Final Score – Iowa 19-16

What a fun and exciting game this was on Saturday. A double overtime victory for the Hawkeyes proved they are still a solid football team (well, as far as the Big Ten is concerned). Meanwhile, Michigan State is continuing to under achieve this season with another home loss.

Northwestern vs. Minnesota

  • Kevin’s Pick – Northwestern 35-21
  • Dustin’s Pick – Northwestern 31-10
  • Final Score – Northwestern 21-13

A good recovery win for the Wildcats this week to improve to 6-1 on the year. Minnesota put up a fight against Northwestern, but the Wildcats are masters in close games and were able to come away with another victory for Pat Fitzgerald.

Wisconsin vs. Purdue

  • Kevin’s Pick – Wisconsin 36-24
  • Dustin’s Pick – Wisconsin 34-28
  • Final Score – Wisconsin 38-14

For the second straight week, the Boilers didn’t show up to play on their home turf. It looked like Purdue’s chance at a big season has dwindled away and now it’s in the process of fighting for a postseason bid. Hats off to Wisconsin and Montee Ball, who had another career day against Purdue.

Illinois vs. #25 Michigan

  • Kevin’s Pick – Michigan 38-13
  • Dustin’s Pick – Michigan 45-19
  • Final Score – Michigan 45-0

It looks like Michigan has finally gotten back into a rhythm after the first few weeks of the season. Illinois is still showing that it is a team searching for an identity.

#8 Ohio State vs. Indiana

  • Kevin’s Pick – Ohio State 52-21
  • Dustin’s Pick – Ohio State 62-27
  • Final Score – Ohio State 52-49

We all knew that the scoreboard would be lit up often in Bloomington, but this was a shootout. Urban Meyer got more than he bargained for and the Hoosiers caught the Buckeyes off guard a bit on Saturday. Luckily for Ohio State, they were able to come away with the win.
