2012 MLS Playoffs: Conference Semifinal Previews and Predictions

The 2012 MLS Playoffs get underway on the last day of October this season.

Expect costumes from fans for both one-off playoff games from the Eastern and Western Conferences.  Fans will dress for the occasion in Chicago tonight and in Los Angeles tomorrow for ‘Day of the Dead’.

Expect both home teams to move on in the playoffs to Conference semifinal berths.

Chicago will have a bigger battle with Houston than LA will have with Vancouver.

Final score predictions:

  • Chicago Fire 2 – Houston Dynamo 1
  • LA Galaxy 3 – Vancouver Whitecaps 0

The Conference semifinals are when fans will start to see some fireworks.  The Conference semis and finals are two games, home and home, with combined final score of the two games determining the winner.

KC versus Chicago will be closer than many pundits think it may be.  Sporting KC will win at home with an overtime goal.

Combined final score: Sporting KC 3 – Chicago Fire 2

New York Red Bulls versus DC United is a blockbuster affair for the League. Both franchises bring solid fan bases to the table. New York wins going away.

Combined final score: New York Red Bulls 4 – D.C. United 2

San Jose versus Los Angeles is a showdown that could easily be the final for the league’s best two teams. San Jose will win at home and so will LA.

Combined final score: LA Galaxy 4 – San Jose Earthquakes 3

Seattle versus Salt Lake will be highly competitive and may be the highest scoring affair.  This one goes to Pk’s to determine the winner.

Combined final score: Seattle Sounders 4 – Real Salt Lake 4… Sounders win shootout 5-4.
