Fantasy Football Week 3 Waiver Wire Pickups and Advice

With Week 2 nearly in the books, finally fantasy players have a little bit of clarity as to who major targets will be, which players are starting the break out season, and which slumping starters could see their jobs in jeopardy.

A giant-sized edition of the The Pick-Up Artist is in store this week, as the injuries to Steven Jackson, Aaron Hernandez, and Ahmad Bradshaw have many of your teams in a lot of trouble right now.

Let’s skip the formalities and get to the content:

The Pick-Up Artist’s Waiver Wire Advice

Andrew Hawkins, CIN, WR (11% Yahoo!, 2.9% FOX)

After weeks of 8.6 and 11.6 fantasy points, how can you not take a flyer on the big-play potential in Andrew Hawkins?

This guy is scary fast, as he demonstrated with an impressive 50-yard reception Sunday. While he doesn’t appear to be a top target, with his big-play potential that could change as the season progresses. He definitely could reap major rewards with the bye-weeks ahead.

Kyle Rudolph, MIN, TE (35% Yahoo! 21% FOX)

If you lost Aaron Hernandez, buy in on Rudolph.

Rudolph continues to be a top target in Minnesota. He was targeted five times Sunday, including two TD looks (one of which he converted). A lot of TD point potential here.

Andre Brown NYG RB (10% Yahoo!, 0.3% FOX)

Brown came into the game after Ahmad Bradshaw left with a neck injury and he got the majority of touches. Look for this to continue going forward as Brown had a strong performance.

Brown had 13 carries for 71 yards and a touchdown, as well as two catches for 19. He’s no guarantee to handle the entire load if Bradshaw does miss time, but he has the most upside of anyone largely available this week.

Martellus Bennett NYG TE (33% Yahoo! 13.7% FOX)

Bennett caught five passes on 10 targets for 72 yards and a touchdown Sunday. He looks to be the 3rd passing option for the Giants. His drops will frustrate you, but he will put up solid numbers each week.

He should be owned in all formats.

Brandon Lafell CAR WR (32% Yahoo!, 13.5% FOX)

I’m buying the hype on Lafell after Sunday’s win against New Orleans. He looks to be a favorite target for Cam Newton going forward as he was a key piece in many of the plays the Panthers run on Sunday.

LaFell had six catches for 90 yards Sunday against the Saints. If Steve Smith’s health continues to be an issue, these numbers could be a regular thing.

Daryl Richardson STL RB (4% Yahoo!, 0.2% FOX)

Richardson saw extensive playing time in Week 2 due to Steven Jackson’s injury.

Much like Brown, Richardson won’t reap long-term rewards, but he has very high upside in the coming weeks. If you can’t get Brown, get Richardson both if you have needs at RB, and to block the opposition.

Justin Tucker BAL K (10% Yahoo!, 6.1% FOX)

Tucker looked great on Sunday hitting 2 50+ yard field goals while staying perfect this season for the Ravens. The rookie looks to see a lot of work as the Ravens should be a playoff team this season.

He should be owned in all formats.

  1. A.Gates burnt me this week. They had him probable till the very end. I didn’t have a replacement for him. Need help. I have lost 2 weeks in a row. My team;
    1Qb ; Brees, A.luck
2RBs; sproles, lynch, doug martin, ridley, d.mccluster
3 WRs ; Malcolm floyd, Greg jennings, randall cobb, Djax, A.Boldin, D.Mccluster
    1TE ; A.Gates
    Def; Ravens
Need a win in week 3.
    1) thinking of dropping, mccluster, cobb and Boldin for a back up TE and 2 better wide recievers/DST.
    2) do you think Luck is worth trading now or should I wait?
    3) Ravens have a bad match up against NE next week, any defense I could pick up for next week?
    These players and more are available on the waiver ; ;
    RBs : Michael bush,
WRs : Greg little , Burleson, damian williams,
    TE : d.pitta, M.Bennett (NYG), Brent celek
Def team: buffalo, oakland, miami, colts, Cincinnati, giants.

    Thanks a lot

    • 1) I say go after one of the tight ends and drop a WR
      2) I’d wait on moving luck until after Brees’s bye-week in Week 6. You’ll want to win that one.
      3) I like Buffalo’s defense for Week 3 a whole lot.

  2. Good morning everyone,

So if you had to keep either Dwyer or Andre Brown who would you keep?

    • Andre Brown. Mendenhall will be back around Week 5 so neither has much longevity. Brown should see most of the Giants touches this week whereas Dwyer and Redman are splitting time.

  3. kyle rudolph or witten this week week 3?? also would jerome simpson be worth to pickup and who should i drop for him between these guys titus young, r cobb, or j rodgers.

    • The time to drop Titus Young is now. He’s not getting the looks from Stafford. I like Rudolph for the rest of the season, but prefer Witten in Week 3 vs. TB

  4. fantasy guy says:

if you had to keep between dwyer or j rodgers who would you keep ? also is titus young worth keeping over randall cobb

  5. should i drop ogletree for martellus bennet?

  6. drop rodgers and pick up simpson.. I would go to witten vikings are facing the 49ers this week..

  7. Power you cant go wrong with bennet pitta or celek close ur eyes pick one!! each one wil give u good points.. pick up micheal bush!!

  8. Guy yikes both those running backs are bad!! keeo titus over cobb titus young is a number two as cobb is 4th or so ..

  9. Hello all, quick couple questions for the guru’s. Should I consider dropping Alex henery for Justin tucker? I’m assuming this is a no brainer, but should I drop Stephen hill for Jerome Simpson? Got a start/sit question, would you consider benching dez Bryant for denarius Moore week 3? Thanks for everything guys.

    • I’d play Bryant in Week 3. I like him against TB as they just gave up huge games to Cruz and Nicks. I say buy in on Tucker. He may finish the year among the top 5 kickers. I like Hill as a bench guy, but Simpson is the smarter play.

  10. Anybody, Who should I start this week in my flex? Dexter McCluster, Torrey Smith, Mikel Leshoure

  11. Chirs pck up tucker and jermoe simpson isnt a bad pick up any other player in FA? You start Dez this week trust me hes going to go offf!! any other questions? torrey smith or mikel leshoure i roll the dice with leshourse all the lion coaches are like drooling over him in pratice go with him..

  12. I need advice on TE, i have Gates, who isnt doing much, and have Olsen on the bench that has done nothing more than Gates. I am trying to pick up Pitta. I am also considering dropping Meachum for Lafell. What do you think?

    • Love the potential Lafell pick up. He’ll get a lot of action going forward. I say cut ties on Olsen and go after either Pitta, Rudolph or Bennett if available. They should all have low end TE 1 numbers.

      • I also have Britt sitting on the bench, should I keep him or drop him for someone else? if so, who? Andre Roberts, Avery, Amendola, Cobb
I have Miles, Welker and Demeryous Thomas active, dropping Meachum for Lafell, and debating on Britt.

  13. Need to pick up a better backup wr, also have Maclin and unsure of his injury. My backups are J. Blackmon, Laurent Robinson and D. McCluster…duds so far. Thinking of picking up Lafell or Avery not so much for just this weekend but for the season. Advice on who to drop.
    Thanks

  14. eViL-Porcupine says:

How “bout some Defense this week? Any worth grabbing? Also, impact on Kellen Winslow @ New England. Thinking of grabbing him now before he blows up. Feeling Pats are going to throw him right into A-Hernandez role!

  15. Pick 1: Ben Tate, Mark Ingram (still iffy about both but need 1)
Pick 2: Greg Jennings, Danny Amendola, Mike Williams, Antonio Brown

    Thanks!

  16. All day ,brown giants rb,wayne, or lafell list in order top to bottom non ppr need to start 1

  17. So, what do you think will happen with Michael Turner? Figures that he is my only RB worth a sh*t till Ryan mathews gets going.

  18. Play 2 non ppr All day matthews or brown nyg rb

  19. With Forte and Steven Jackson potentially out for a bit, I’m looking for someone to replace their starting positions or at least some help with my starting line up for week 3.

The rest of my team looks like this:

    QB-Cam Newton (Started)
    QB-Eli Manning
    RB-Pierre Thomas (Start)
    RB-Steven Jackson (?)
    RB-Matt Forte (OUT)
    RB-Daryl Richardson (?)
    RB-Jacquizz Rogers
    WR-Brandon LaFell (Started)
    WR-Mike Wallace (Start)
    WR-AJ Green (Start)
    WR-Brandon Lloyd (?)
    TE-Dennis Pitta (Start)
    TE-Aaron Hernandez (OUT)
    K-Mason Crosby (Start)
DEF- Bills (waiting on Steelers off wire)

There’s not much available on the wire, but I need some short term help at the RB while Forte and Jackson nurse their injuries.
Waiver Wire Availability: Dwyer, K. Hunter, J. Battle, and M. Goodson

Any suggestions? Or should I just stick with what I have.
