Our Andrew Wittry got to hang out with Indiana hoops coach Tom Crean recently, and the Tan One let it be known that he wants senior forward Derek Elston “to be Scalabrine for us this year.”
By Scalabrine, Crean of course is referring to Brian Scalabrine, who recently retired.

It seems like a good fit. Elston and Scalabrine are both 6’9 and in the 220-230 range, and both have specific but limited skill sets that make them best served in a supporting role as opposed to being 30-minute-a-night starters.
Also, Elston is white. Scalabrine is rumored to be as well. But surely that had nothing to do with Crean’s comparison…
Anyway, a rather well done Brian Scalabrine highlight video is making the rounds of the web today. It’s far more entertaining than I expected it to be. And frankly, there are some impressive highlights from Scalabrine that I didn’t expect, most notably the Jordanesque up-and-under move he pulled while a member of the Bulls.
Enjoy.
