The LA Galaxy took care of business Thursday night in this year’s Champions League debut with an entertaining win over Metapan of El Salvador in Champions League play at the Home Depot Center.
The Galaxy did it via a comeback. They fell down 1-0 before surging back with four goals unanswered, the first one coming on an auto-goal by Metapan.
David Beckham was at his bending best. He made one assist and scored once. Beckham’s goal happened to be the 1000th goal in CONCACAF Champions League history.
Beckham’s corner was not as legendary as other corners he has kicked, but he does keep adding to his legend little by little with each great performance. On other corners, he has scored the elusive straight ‘banana’ way, in which the ball goes in past the goalkeeper without any interference from the keeper or other players.
The Galaxy have one monkey off their back with this opening win. They did it with excellent form, possession and strategy. Landon Donovan did not play. Also, Robbie Keane scored one goal.
