2-0 Preseason Start Has Browns Fans Dreaming Big: Is 3rd Place in AFC North Really Possible?

The Cleveland Browns have toppled both of their foes this preseason. And while rookie starter Brandon Weeden has looked marginally effective as the 28-year old Quarterback of the Future for the Browns, he should still be the Browns’ starter in Week 1.

There are some big questions facing the Cleveland Browns this season like:

  • Was it worth it to move up to draft a running back who just had knee surgery?
  • Will they have one player that could start on a fantasy football team?
  • Who needs starters on defense anyways?

Still, despite the lingering questions, a 2-0 start in the preseason can’t help but induce some optimism, which for long-suffering Browns fans goes a little something like this:

OH YEAH BABY!!!  Can you say undefeated!!?? Looks like we are going to the playoffs for sure this year!

I mean we KILLED the Green Bay Packers 35-10, and they were the defending champs last season!

It also looks like we finally have our Quarterback of the Future, and the best part is that he is 28 years old, so he has already passed the age where quarterbacks fail in Cleveland by 4 years!!

PLUS WEEDEN THROWS SO HARD HE CAN BREAK CLAY PIGEONS!

Montario Hardesty has been looking good, and the Browns will be even better when Trent Richardson gets his first ever NFL carry in a regular season game coming off of two knee surgeries in the last nine months.

We should definitely score more than 13 points a game this year. I would not be surprised if we score once in the fourth quarter even!

The Browns head into tonight’s preseason matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles looking to make some final decisions on roster spots on both sides of the ball. Given the amount of injuries that they have had on defense, plenty of people in the Browns camp should have a decent shot at making the team.

The entire Browns team has had a tumultuous camp in terms of injuries:

  • Trent Richardson will be sitting out the entire preseason as a result of microsurgery on his knee.
  • Starting linebacker Chris Gocong is out for the season.
  • 2nd year defensive lineman Phil Taylor should miss at least six games with a chest muscle injury.

And then there is the fun story of emotions boiling over in Wednesday’s practice. Star cornerback Joe Haden was kicked out for being too rough with rookie wide receiver Travis Benjamin after he had a touchdown reception.

In closing, here is another random interlude of exuberant Browns optimism:

Battle of undefeated teams tonight! Can’t wait to see how we fair against the Eagles this week.

We play them in week 1 of the regular season, so I figure if we win tonight that basically means that we will be starting the regular season 1-0. That would be our best start since 2004, and we went like 10-6 four years after that, so that’s not a bad sign at all!

Looks like Joe Haden got kicked out of practice for being too badass. Not a bad problem to have if you ask me.

The Browns had a top 10 defense last year. Some say its because teams did not have to throw the ball in the second half because they knew we were all done scoring points.

People can write us off all they want but take a look at the latest power rankings. The Browns are in the Top 30 right now! Look out Pittsburgh because we are gunning for 3rd place in the AFC North this year..
