In a shocking move, the Lakers have landed Phoenix PG Steve Nash in a trade.
The Suns will get the Lakers’ 2013 and 2015 first-round draft picks and their 2014 and 2015 second-round selections. The Lakers also paid the Suns $3 million to facilitate the trade.
The Lakers will give Nash a three-year, $27 million contract, while using the trade exception they received from the deal to ship Lamar Odom to Dallas last year.
As someone who is not a Lakers fan I am not happy at all.
And as a Thunder fan I am concerned.
I think the Thunder did well in the draft to get PJ3 in the late first round, but if the Lakers keep Gasol and Bynum, or trade and get Howard, the power in the Western Conference may shift back to the old guard.
I believe the Lakers will keep Bynum and Gasol, unless they make a play for Howard. Regardless of whether they keep Bynum and Gasol or trade one of them and another piece for Howard, the Lakers are the team to beat in the West, presuming Nash stays healthy.
The Lakers, Spurs, and Thunder are the top three teams in the West. Beyond that, with offseason moves to still be made, it will be a crap shoot.
I cannot wait for next season; it will be awesome.
I know all of my in-laws who are Lakers fans are much more excited for next season today than they were yesterday.
